I had high hopes for this dude since his college days. He's now in his 3rd season and still hasn't proved anything offensively. Is it because our O-Line is shit and needs him for his good blocking capabilities? Is it because he cant run good routes? Is it because of his alligator hands? Is it because he thinks down field even before catching the ball when passes are thrown to him or is it just defense's knowing his abilities and double cover him whenever he's on a route? Martz system? etc. etc.

I just wanna know other peoples opinions.

I think he would thrive in the proper environment. SF just hasn't been tight end friendly in the last few years. It's really sad considering all the great tight ends the WCO featured in the past.

He showed flashes early last season. He's got the play making ability, but yeah he's been used more as a blocker this season. I think Polamalu fucked up his mind ever since he knocked him out when the 9ers played the Steelers last year.

Not! I can see Vernon Davis being a vicious weapon. Mike Martz is not using him to full capacity, because of the style of Offense he's running. That's at least what I've noticed so far this season. Wasted talent so far!!!

No I wouldn't call him a bust because of the situation he's been in. He hasn't had the right qb to throw him the ball. I've seen him alligator a few passes in fear of being hit. But I wouldn't call him a bust though.

Against the giants he droped that ball i think it was about 15 yards wide open, no one around him, hit his hands and all........Thats not the 1st time either.......I wouldnt label him a bust, but he hasnt done much yet....My friends who are die hard niner fans, dont say good things about V.D.

lol @ people talkin shit without knowing some simple shit like the real spot he got drafted.

you can call him a bust on a catching passes downfield, but as a TE blocker he is good as hell. he is still in the NFL, he is still starting in the NFL (Alex Smith?), he still is a TD threat everytime he catches the ball. He is not a bust, but he is not a pro-bowler either.

if you wanted him to be the best TE ever then yeah he is a bust, but he is not a shabby football player, just sucks he was drafted way too high for his "for sure hands, and freakish athletic ability".

i think he is a good pro te. bust no. pro bowler, no. but a solid player on and off the field. and he blocks his ass off. if he can soften up those hands (no homo) he will catch better and fill out to his potential.

short of cutler and huff.... maybe wimbley...... the picks behind v. davis are shit as well. definate busts behind him.

He can't be blamed for not getting receptions though... it's like the Javon Walker situation in Oakland.... critics will call him a free agent bust because he's not putting up the numbers. You gotta at least try to get these dudes involved in the offense. With Javon I think Lane was holding him back and with Veron Davis I think it's been the coordinators not getting him involved enough. You see he's playing pretty good in Mike Martz system.
