Wrong. Pacific Islanders are Tongas, Samoans, etc. Filipinos are NOT pacific Islanders and if you go to Hawaii and you're filipino and call yourself a Pacific Islander a 500 pound Samoan will stomp you into the ground. Filipino's are fooling themselves with that pacific islander bullshit. Japan is in the Pacific are they "Pacific Islanders? Get the fuck outta here.
This is the truth. Go ask any historian or asian studies professor at a univerisity and they will tell you Filipinos are asian. I was born and raised in Vallejo and I know why a lot of Filipino claim pacific islander instead of asian. They don't see themselves as asian because they assimilated to american culture more than any other asian race. Assimilation comes with a price. You compromise culture. That explains why most american born Filipinos can't speak their native tongue (tagalogue) compared with other asians born kids or Latinos. They don't relate to those stereotypes of asians. As far as Vallejo a lot of Filipinos don't consider themselves asian because they act different from those stereotypes. But once you leave the bay, Filipinos are still asian and all those stereotypes are labeled on you. No matter how you identify yourself as a Filipino there is no denying that they are asian. I knew a dumb bitch who said she is mixed with everything and isn't Filipino. I knew both of her parents and they were filipino down to the toe nails. Self-hate is probably the biggest factor tearing up the asian community apart today. Filipino culture is more asian than anything else. Just look at the values and tell me what culture it is related to the most. I hope Mrs. Santos is educating her Filipino class at Hogan about this lol.

I'm full Filipino but I look spanish. When people meet me they assume I'm Latino. A lot of older Latinos come up to me and speak spanish to me in stores. Only later when I bring it up or when somebody tries to use a mexican joke on me they find out. I'm asian and I identify with asian people. I ain't embarrased to claim it. Every asian joke said is thrown on me too. Yeah the media makes it seem asians ain't cool but you gotta fight that misrepresentation take pride in your ethnic identity and culture. The Phillipines has been through some shit like spanish colonization and that has a big part of the whole identity issue with Filipinos. You can call yourself Filipino in a place like the bay or socal and not claim asian but once you go to any other part of the U.S you will see just how asian you really are. You will see that you have more in common and bond with the 4% of america.

hahaha people STILL on here debating on whos a pacific islander? again, i thought filipinos were pacific islanders when i first saw this post (cuz thats what i was taught). now i just think filipinos are just filipinos, not asian or pac islander.

if anything, maybe filipinos are more african than asain cuz of the way those small, hella dark-skinned "mountain people" look in philippines called "EGGOTS" hahaha
