What exactly are your reasons for optimism? Please let me know. Is it the fact he can overthrow a 5-yard screen pass? Or maybe it's his deep balls that are placed in the wrong spot so his guys have to adjust in coverage, but in the end the ball falls to the ground. Is it that? It must be his 1-4 TD-INT ratio this season, right? Or is it his his 42% completion percentage? Oh I know, it HAS to be his 47.1 QB rating combined with his whopping 120 yards per game, correct?

Come on man. Don't give me that "inner hater" bullshit. You'd have to be searching pretty hard to find optimism when it comes to this guy, and that's exactly what you did.

Despite your stat comparison through 20 games, Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisburger NEVER looked as bad as Russell. I don't care if Russell's stats outshined the both of them through 20 games, none of that makes a damn bit of difference because those two weren't out there over/underthrowing basic routes by 5-yards! PERIOD. Nobody cares about the stats, watch the guy play and no argument is needed.
word, Russell has shown me nothing to be optimistic about

he did get better the last couple games of last season... which is why I had some optimism during the offseason

but now?pssshh... nah

This I can understand, but still having optimism after what he's shown so far this season? Nah. Alex Smith looked halfway decent in his 2nd year as well, but after that it was all downhill.

If Russell miraculously turns it around and becomes a good QB, then that's great for you guys. But I find it very hard to believe that any raiders fans who aren't complete homers think that's going to happen. It can happen, ANYTHING can happen, but even saying it's not likely as a major understatement.

homers, huh? i have to laugh at that. I guess you could call a season ticket holder(4 tickets), and the 5 or so thousand a year i spend on the raiders homerish. I consider it chump change, but to each his own.

this year russell hasnt shown much, other than the poise to make it happen when given the chance late in the game. i take what you say with a grain of salt because, as a niner fan, you would love to see russell meet the same fate as A. Smith. If he is a bust, hey, its nothing. I will still support the raiders although i disagree with the function of the organization. At the end of day and i will quote your favorite rappers, "it is nothing to a boss."

What does your season ticket holding and money spent on the raiders have to do with you being a homer when it comes to JaMarcus Russell? Or was that a failed attempt at making it seem like you make more money than I do? I see no correlation between your annual money spent on the Oakland raiders and your homerish view of your QB. I've spent more than 5 Gs on the Niners in past seasons, but that doesn't have anything to do with my views of Alex Smith. I don't see where you're coming from.

Without getting into specifics, what is it that you actually do?

Tell yourself what you need to tell yourself. I already went over this and you had nothing to say about it. He has shown he can move the ball when a defense is in prevent mode, trying to preserve a small lead. Any QB in the league can do that. You're blindly searching for reasons to give him credit.

If he really was able to "make things happen late in the game," you guys probably wouldn't be 1-4 right now.

No, you choose take what I say with a grain of salt because you don't like what I'm saying. I've already accepted Alex Smith's failures and moved on from it. I don't give a shit what your QB does or doesn't do. The fact of the matter is this is a public forum in which fans of several teams converse about a variety of topics and that's the only reason I have anything to say about Russell. I never bring the guy up, not even when talking to raider fans in real life. I just don't care about him. But when he is the subject at hand on this message board, you will get an opinion from me and whether you agree or disagree with it is up to you, but don't ever try to tell me why I've formed that particular opinion. You don't know me so don't act like you know why I form the opinions that I do.

By the way, you say you take my statements with a grain of salt because I'm a Niner fan and you assume I must have some ulterior motive behind them, but what about the raider fans who agree with me? Do you take their opinions with a grain of salt as well, or is it just me because I'm a fan of a different team and you don't want to accept my opinion? I'm thinking it's the latter.

It is what it is, I guess. Some of you just don't understand the way my mind works. Your team is not in our division, it has never knocked us out of the playoffs or done anything to ruin our season, it's not even in the same conference as my Niners. I understand the rivalry by proximity, but some of my closest friends and a lot of my family are fans of the Oakland raiders and I have no desire to hate their team just because it's across the Bay.

Your assumptions may be safe when it comes to other Niner fans, but not me. I challenge you to find one post I have made bashing the raiders without provocation from a raider fan. Everything I have ever said has been accompanied with reasoning.

Fatal, we got Richard Seymour and we're still ranked 31st against the run. Our defense can't stop anyone! 3rd and 24 and we give a first down on a simple ass screen pass... that's why we're 1-4! Cris Johnson gets burned for a td at least once a game!

^it's rare when a defense can stop anyone when they are on the field AT LEAST 75% of the time

I think Jamarcus is still coachable. he was thrown in too early and never had consistent coaching, a veteran mentor, or any competition for the job. He looks like he needs to be pushed in order to be good. He hasn't shown any signs of leadership either. Raiders are getting the bottom of the heap with coaching because of Al. There needs to be an intervention by the NFL. with all that is done by Roger Goodell to clean up the league why is he allowing a dying man to run this organization into the ground? Al is pretty much running every aspect of the franchise and when there is any sign that they won't do exactly as Al says then they're fired. Or when they lose too much, but they're running Al's old ass losing schemes anyways so they're destined for failure. We need a coach that's gonna cut Al off on everything and focus on what the Raiders need rather than what Al wants. Or we need Al to die.

right on for the essay but it isnt that serious.

as a real fan of my team, i do my part, that was my point.

regardless of what other raider fans think, they dont make me retract my view. i dont think russell is as bad as people think, i feel oakland is an environment young players do not thrive in.

it starts at the top with any business, organization, etc.

i am not a big russell supporter, lets clear that up.
