LAST WEEKEND I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT DOWN WITH ONE OF THE VP'S OF A MAJOR LABEL IN L.A. (CANT SAY WHICH ONE CAUSE WE ARE CURRENTLY IN NEGOCIATIONS, DONT WANNA MESS THINGS UP) HE REALLY ENLIGHTEND ME ON A FEW THINGS IN THE MUSIC GAME ON HOW PEOPLE VIEW THE BAY.

FIRST OFF, HE REALLY TOOK ME BACK TO THE EARLY 90'S WHEN LYRICS WERE THE FOCAL POINT OF RAP. HE SAID THAT BAY ARTISTS HAVE A HARD TIME TRANSLATING THE HYPHY MOVEMENT TO THE REST OF THE NATION. HE SAID THAT MUSIC (SINGLES IN PARTICULAR) HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD VIBE. HE SAID WHEN HE CAME TO THE BAY HE WENT TO A FEW CLUBS AND WHEN HYPHY SONGS CAME ON, THE WOMEN WOULD MOVE OFF THE FLOOR AND IT WOULD JUST BE A LOT OF GUYS JUST GOING DUMB IN A CIRCLE..... SO WHY WOULD A LABEL WANT TO GET BEHIND MUSIC THAT WOMEN DONT NECESSARILY FEEL? (SINCE FEMALES ARE THE BIGGEST CONSUMERS OF MUSIC ACCORDING TO STATISTICS)

SECOND, HE SAID ALL THE MUSIC SOUNDS THE SAME. HE HAD AT LEAST 30 DEMOS ON HIS DESK WITH A SONG CALLED "GO DUMB" OR "GO STUPID" OR SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE. HE WAS LIKE, "YALL MUTHAFUCKAS ARE MAKING THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER. THATS NOT HOT.."

LAST, HE WAS SAYING THAT OUR RADIO DJ'S DONT PLAY WHATS HOT. HE SAID THAT THE SONGS THAT ARE ON THE RADIO THE MOST ARENT THE ONES WHO SELL THE MOST RECORDS..... OBVIOUS SIGNS OF PAYOLA OR PAYOFFS. HE SAID THE TRUE STREET BUZZ IS KILLED. HE SAID THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD MUISC IN THE BAY, PEOPLE JUST DONT KNOW ABOUT IT.......

THE ONLY REASON I POSTED THIS IS NOT BECAUSE I NECISSARILY AGREE WITH HIM, BUT THOSE OF YOU OUT THERE TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE MAINSTREAM CAN KNOW WHAT THE LABEL HEADS THINK........

Some of the Hyphy music is ok that's it. And Ok is not gonna cut it. To me alot of it sounds the same. Especially the lyrics and that will get old real quick. Right now the only artists albums I'll consider picking up is Assassin's and Woodie's and East Co.Co. artists albums. Cause they always come correct none of this half ass shit alot of bay rappers be doing out here.

i felt almost all that he was saying except the part about appealing to females for sales... then right after going on to touch on quality.. cuz if you have to sugarcoat a song to make it appeal to females only then your going to lose quality in the process..

I agree with most of it. Thank god for artists like messy marv, yukmouth , mobfigaz, team, quinn, big rich, bailey etc.that do them and are about quality music first instead of trying to get on the radio.

Stop worrying about hyphy or trying to get on the radio think good music first and the rest will come later.

I like the topic. Myself and my label on tour right now promoting this Bay Area Northern California Music as well as Were im Originally from Hunters Point on the whole other side of the country right now. We startin at square one right now seeing how we gone get reconized while the Bay got, are had the spotlight shined on us with E-40 gettin us 2 106 and park. We diffently plantin are seeds out side the Bay Area and California when that type of thing is being done, Im tryna reach out 2 whoever can help further my career so I can keep promotin this side of the globe that we call ares. At the same time the music gone speak 4 itself thats why with us being the founders of doing this shit independent. We got 2 get out there and appeal 2 all markets, not just tryna make the world go hyhpy cause they not gone do that. But bringing all angles in with the hyphy being more than one way. All the names that been mentioned that do they own thang gone continue 2 stand out cause thats what real niggas do. The important thing is 2 just put yo application in when you dealing with this great art form we got. My application in, so who ever ready 2 give these "Wont Stop Records" niggas a Job we with that. We gone eat regardless cause we hard workers hood grinders and real niggas with some of the realest and rawest rap talent to emerge from H.P in a long time. Check my straight edited my self video out from the All Out War Mixtape vol 1 called "4 the love of money" www.myspace.com/wontstoprecords l

I THINK WE DEFINATELY NEED A LIL DIVERSITY IN THE BAY. WHEN THE BAY WAS HOT NATIONWIDE IN THE 90'S WE HAD IT. YOU HAD ARTISTS LIKE SOULS OF MISCHEF, TOO SHORT, RICHIE RICH, EN VOGUE, TONI TONY TONE ALL HAD VIDEOS IN MAJOR ROTATION. IT GAVE THE REST OF THE NATION A CHOICE ON STYLES OF MUSIC. HIP HOP, GANGSTA SHIT, R&B..... WE NEED TO GET THAT BACK. JUST MY OPINION
