Well, Im not happy about what they did but it sounds like we're gonna have the money to keep Cain and Lincecum, Bum, Sandoval, Belt, Posey, Vogelsong for at least a couple years, and Affeldt and Wilson and Lopez. Thats a good core. That's going to give us money down the line to invest in better free agents in the next few years. We got Zito and Rowand coming off the books. IMO, our worst move was trading for Beltran and giving up Wheeler. That gave us nothing to make any big deals this off season.

Rockies interested in Beltran... :dead:

Rockies interested in Carlos Beltran

Is Beltran coming back to the NL West?

It’s a given that Carlos Beltran won’t end up in San Francisco next season. However, there is a strong possibility that the free agent slugger will wind up in the National League West.

Jon Heyman (CBS Sports) said today that the Colorado Rockies are working on bringing Beltran to the West. Heyman also mentions the Rockies’ interest in free agent Michael Cuddyer, but all indications are that the Twins are going to re-sign him, leaving the door wide open for Beltran to come back to the NL West.

Beltran, 34, batted .300/.385/.525 with 22 HR and 84 RBI last year. The six-time All-Star came to the Giants last summer in a trade-deadline deal for top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler and, because of a wrist injury, failed to catapult the Giants into the postseason as many fans had hoped.

Because of a clause in his contract, San Francisco won’t even get a compensatory draft pick for Beltran when he signs with another team. And now he might end up in our division? Great.

Free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran has agreed to a two-year contract worth $26 million with the St. Louis Cardinals, sources told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday.

As part of the deal Beltran received a full no-trade clause.

Behind only Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder on the list of available sluggers, Beltran, 34, chose the Cardinals over similar offers from the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians.

The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays also had shown interest in Beltran, who overcame lower-body injuries the previous two seasons to bat .300 and hit 22 home runs over 142 games with the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants in 2011.

Beltran hit as many as 40 home runs once and as recently as 2007 hit 33 homers, but balky knees slowed him over his final two years in New York.

He once regularly stole 30 bases or more. He has seven over the past two seasons.

Still, Beltran remains an offensive force. The switch-hitter batted .307 and had a .404 on-base percentage from the left side in 2011. His on-base-plus-slugging percentage from the right side was .923. His overall OPS – .910 – was 15th in baseball, ninth (and just ahead of Pujols) in the National League. And he hit .378 for the Giants in September.

With the free-agent departure of Pujols, who’d been the organization’s rock for 11 seasons, the Cardinals needed middle-of-the-order offense. Presumably, Lance Berkman will play first base and Beltran will play right field.

Pujols’ agent, Dan Lozano, also represents Beltran.

What a fucking horrendous offseason this has been for the Giants. Not only did they not add any bats to the lineup, but they still haven't extended neither Cain or Timmy. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess I should be thankful we're not the A's.

Maybe the G-men are waiting on the A's to get the rights to San Jose which they'll have to pay big time for and then the Giants can rape the shit out of their pockets to extend Timmy and Cain? Hope so!

The Giants have agreed to sign free agent infielder Ryan Theriot, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports on Twitter. The Beverly Hills Sports Council client obtains a one-year deal worth $1.25MM that includes $750K in incentives.
