Seeing as how the giants aren't the yankees or red sox, if they keep both there gonna tie their hands when it comes to signing posey, sandoval, madbum, possibly belt as well as try an attract a big free agent bat. With management reducing payroll, it just seems near impossible to keep both unless the board changes their philosophy...

we have a ton of money coming off the books over the next 2 years. I think based on team control of the player you mentioned we will be fine... Now big money free agent???? Been our Achilles heel.....

Ummmm im not sure. Cause Joe Mauer was a FREAK! Buster is good by MLB standards and even great by Giants standards. But $100 mill for posey? Im glad we are a few years away.... He will be a 8-10 mill a year player in 3 years when we have to pay up. And if we learned anything from his injury is that it only takes 1 play for a catcher to be down and on the DL. So I think he will get the 5 year deal for somewhere around 75-85 mill..... AFTER his arbitration years.

http://blog.sfgate.com/giants/2012/04/02/sources-cain-close-to-5-year-110-million-deal/?tsp=1

UPDATE FROM HENRY SCHULMAN, REPORTING FROM INTERSTATE 5: As we reported, this is a five-year, $112.5 million extension with club option for 2018 that vests automatically for $21 million if Cain hits an innings target in 2017. I’m told it’s an easy number to hit if he is a healthy full-time starter. Cain also gets a full no-trade clause for the life of the deal

Quite technically, Cain is actually signing a six-year contract with a seventh-year option because his $15 million deal for this year was ripped up and included in the new deal so the no-trade rights could be inserted for 2012. The money for this year does not change.

As we’ve said, the $22.5 million average annual value is the highest for a right-handed pitcher on a multiyear deal. Interestingly, he broke the record of $20.25 million just set by Tim Lincecum for his 2012-13 deal.

nice!

From a fan prospective, you want them to sign them both, but if you give lincecum the same deal, and say they're payroll is 150mill, you have pumped 30% of your teams money into 2 players that don't even play everyday and are at no fault of they're own .500 pitchers. It's almost a damned if you do damned if you dont situation. Then figure in the money Pablo and posey are gonna get, and you're in trouble as far as the 40 man roster is concerned.

The one thing that will help is that the loan on the stadium is up after next year, so hopefully they pump that money into the team.

Travis Ishikawa has earned a 25-man roster spot.
The 28-year-old beat out Brooks Conrad for the final spot on the Milwaukee bench. Ishikawa will function merely as a pinch-hitter in the early going but could see legitimate playing time at first base if Mat Gamel struggles.
