Pablo got Lasik eye surgery today..

S.F. Giants: Pablo Sandoval undergoes eye surgery

Third baseman Pablo Sandoval underwent LASIK surgery today on his left eye, presumably trying once and for all to solve a vision problem that has dogged him since his rookie year.

Sandoval’s brother, Michael, tweeted that the procedure was a success while the Panda reportedly told a Spanish language newspaper that the surgery lasted 30 minutes.

Sandoval has tried contact lenses and goggles to enhance the vision in his left eye, but has discarded them because they disrupted him on the field. It is believed that the vision troubles in his left eye have contributed to his struggles hitting right-handed.

Stay tuned to the Splash Blog for more details.

That means he was hitting real good even with a bad eye.. DAMN imagine how much better he will be able to hit with 2 perfectly good eyes?!

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Giants are still interested in Carlos Beltran.
After the recent acquisition of Melky Cabrera, Jon Heyman of SI.com reported that the Giants were no longer expected to attempt to bring Beltran back, but Olney hears that he is at the top of their list among free agent outfielders. The 34-year-old is also drawing interest from the Red Sox and Marlins, among others.

The Giants won't offer arbitration to Pat Burrell (B) or Cody Ross (B) according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter). Carlos Beltran (A) contractually cannot be offered arbitration.

The Giants extend the contracts of Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy

the Giants have just announced that the contracts of Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy have been extended through 2013 with club options for 2014.

Sabean has had his job since 1996, meaning that by the time this deal is up, assuming the option is picked up, he will have been at the helm for 18 years. Bochy has been the Giants’ manager since 2007. Before that he had 12 years in the Padres dugout. Say what you want about any one of their deals or moves, but these two are consistency and stability personified, and that’s worth something.

And now, with extra job security at their disposal, each of them can proceed to do exactly what they want this offseason: sign Jeromy Burnitz or someone a lot like him to a three-year deal.

I wish they would add 2 power hitters who can play corner out field positions & a shortstop who can hit above .275 instead of 80 jerseys to our rotation... Shit. But the jerseys and uni's are pure swag!

Right-hander Waldis Joaquin is now a free agent after clearing waivers, MLBTR has learned. The Giants designated the hard-throwing 24-year-old for assignment in November. Joaquin has made 19 relief appearances for the Giants from 2009-11, including five this past season. He spent most of 2011 at Triple-A Fresno, where he posted a 3.44 ERA with 4.9 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 49 2/3 innings. Joaquin will now pitch a few games in the Dominican Republic to get some work in.

Giants Trying To Trade Affeldt Or Ramon Ramirez
By Tim Dierkes [November 30, 2011 at 9:10am CST]

The Giants have a ton of money tied up in the bullpen right now, writes Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, so they're trying to move Jeremy Affeldt or Ramon Ramirez. Many teams seek bullpen help, including the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers, Twins, Angels, Mariners, Mets, Brewers, Cardinals, and Reds.

Affeldt, a 32-year-old lefty, had his $5MM club option exercised by the Giants in October. Ramirez, a 30-year-old righty, projects to earn $2.3MM in his last year before free agency.

Including Affeldt, Ramirez, Brian Wilson ($8.5MM), Javier Lopez ($4.25MM), Santiago Casilla ($1.9MM estimated), and Sergio Romo ($1.3MM estimated), the Giants project to have a $23.25MM bullpen in 2012. That doesn't seem too bad against a $130MM payroll, though it increases to over 23% of the team's spending once you remove the dead weight of Barry Zito and Aaron Rowand.

* Sabean told John Shea of The San Francisco Chronicle that he will speak to Carlos Beltran's camp today (Twitter link). "It's a fluid situation as well as other conversations we're in," said the GM.
* "There won't be any big splashes," said Sabean to Andrew Baggarly of The Mercury News (on Twitter). He added that there would be no "sticker shock" acquisitions.
* Sabean is "not sure" if the team will be able to re-sign Cody Ross, according to Baggarly (on Twitter).
* Bobby Evans, the Giants vice president of baseball operations, said the team has exchanged "broad numbers and ideas" with Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain about contract extensions, reports Baggarly (on Twitter). Lincecum is reportedly seeking a one or two-year deal.

Giants courting shortstop Alex Gonzalez

This isn’t good news for the National League’s worst offense.

According to both ESPN Deportes and FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal, the Giants are talking to Alex Gonzalez about becoming their new shortstop.

Gonzalez, who turns 35 in February, hit .241/.270/.372 with 15 homers, 56 RBI and a dreadful 126/22 K/BB ratio in 564 at-bats for the Braves last season. He remains an above average defender, with sure hands and excellent footwork making up for a lack of elite range. However, his history of dreadful OBPs weighs on his value, and the Giants last year finished last in the NL in both OBP and runs scored.

With Jose Reyes and Jimmy Rollins in free agency, there are a pair of shortstops available capable of providing a genuine lift to the San Francisco offense. The Giants, though, don’t seem prepared to spend what it would take to secure either. For that reason, they could conceivably again finish second in the majors in ERA and miss the postseason next year.

This time I don't blame Sabean entirely because it's the fucking piece of shit ownership group that doesn't want to spend the money so Sabes is REALLY limited to what he can do. Like I said when it happened the worst thing to happen to this team was losing Bill Neukom. These dumb motherfuckers don't understand that we have a extremely rare window right now with these stud pitchers that wont be here forever.

Yeah but if the ownership group was really cheap he could just leave. Weren't the Red Sox looking for a GM at the end of last season? I'm sure they would have swooped him up easily.

Why would he want to leave? I'm sure he likes it in here since he's been here 14 seasons, has a great relationship with Boch and now has a pass with the fan base because he did the impossible in winning a world title. Leaving to place like Boston where the pressure to win is 10x worst from the fans and media wouldn't be a good move. He's still got the amazing pitching staff that he had a big hand in growing, but it's these piece of shit owners with their "rainy day fund" that are fucking shit up. Sabean already said he will only have $130 to play with but with all the fucking sell outs and panda hats sold last season we should be closer to like $160mil payroll.
