Seattle becomes 'home sweet home' for Marlins

The Marlins will pack their bags and board a plane, flying more than 3,000 miles away from their South Florida homes and landing in Seattle.

All for a home game.

No, this is not exactly hosting the Angels at Sun Life Stadium for a three-game series.

Yet, Safeco Field will be the Marlins' home when they take on the Mariners on Friday in the first game of their three-game series. A U2 concert that will take place at Sun Life Stadium on June 29 forced the baseball inhabitants to vacate the premises.

No worries, the Marlins will still wear their home jerseys, still bat last and, yes, the game will still be played under National League rules. Read more here...

seattle doesnt need A bat, seattle needs about 3-6 bats.

they mentioned a stat earlier today, something like when the mariners score more than 4 runs a game we are 25-6, and when we score less than 4 we are 13 - 44, some shit like that, numbers might obviously be off

they shouldve took fister out in the 8th, instead of pushing him past 100 pitches. he was too tired. this goes to show it wouldve been a bad idea pitching him past 99 against the nationals in that game we lost 6-5, too tired in both games.

but that was an amazing ending to a nail biter

Nick Franklin is making Seattle Mariners scouts quite happy right now. Franklin is with the Jackson Generals (Double-A) after receiving a recent promotion from the team. The Mariners' prospect had been playing at Class-A Advanced High Desert when he received the promotion last week. He had raised his batting average to .275 over 64 games, with 13 stolen bases and 50 runs scored.

In his first four games with Jackson, Franklin has been nothing short of amazing. His first game came on June 23, when he went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. He then followed that up with three straight games where he had at least two hits. After four games at Double-A, Franklin is hitting .600 (9-for-15) with three runs, a home run, and a stolen base. Not bad at all for a 20-year-old shortstop.

This is the player that the Mariners selected with the No. 27 pick in the 2009 MLB draft. He was taken in the same round as Dustin Ackley(notes) (No. 2), and was one of the compensation picks that Seattle got for losing Raul Ibanez(notes) to the Philadelphia Phillies. Franklin was definitely going to be a prospect that required some time, especially with his extremely young age at the time. He finished high school at Lake Brantley (Fla.) and has already made it on to the list of MLB's best prospects. Coming into the 2011 season, he was ranked No. 38 overall on that list.

At the start of the 2011 season, Franklin was having some troubles getting his bat going, but recently he has started to heat up with the weather. This is very good news for the Mariners, especially at a time when it seems like the offense is struggling to score runs almost every night. Even though Brendan Ryan(notes) is a great defensive shortstop, there aren't very many Mariners fans that wouldn't rather have a great hitter at the position.

It's good to see that Franklin is starting to really come around and that he is finding so much success at his next level. Maybe he will continue hitting this well and end up at Triple-A Tacoma before the end of the current season. That might be rushing it a bit, but it's great to see a young talent coming up on the horizon in the Mariners' system.

I wonder how long they'll groom this kid for?
If Franklin continues to progress, he could start next year in Tacoma. Of which then we probably wouldn't see him until at LEAST next September. And thats being optimistic. Put it like this: you will see Hultzen (this year's first pick) before Franklin.

I heard he had to go to the hospital the other day after an in-game injury...no word on what happened or how he is, though.
