i'll tell you what sav_scor.....

thats tru mike jones did capitolize but

thats not our main concern our main concern is that the south is now evolving its game and adapting to whats hot out in the bay right now. those keek type beats wit keek type flows. and voice tone. that new bay sound their catching on quick down south and they are not just putting it on tapes they are making fucking videos.

david banner was 106 and park with his new (keek) randition saying that the guy who did the "wait" beat (dj smurf) was starting a type of music a new crunk called intimate club bangers. the same type of beats and flow style the bay was going to capitilize on. so now if the bay artists blow up it will just be a different version of the south not our own sound.

the problem is by the time we get enough recognition someone in a higher position caps on it by putting out videos. its like checkers.
I agree and I said this shit years back on this bord that we (the bay) need to get behind San Quinn and see how we can get him on 106 and Park with some kind of campaign or something because that will get us all the recognition we need. I'm one of the first folks on here to put together a turn-based call-in campaign for the different camps so we can get their songs played on KMEL (remember that) it was before they had On The Block. People on here laughed at both of my ideas back then but they are both valid. We need a coalition to get behind a Bay Area Representative and establish write-in, call-in campaigns while Done Deal gets a MTV quality video together and we all push it.

So many artists out here getting money, spend that shit on a video.

We almost had this year sewed up until Mike Jones and crew came out with Still Tippin. Now Paul Wall is tearing it up and the fcus is back on the South. I don't listen to most of that shit but damn man, we had some good music and shit this year and it's all for nothing now. The Team, Frontline and The Federation led us all out of the gate and we just couldnt keep the momentum going. We're all too wrapped up in mixtapes to make good music. Same thing we did with compilations. Everybody and they mama rappin and not enough fans. It's a sad day. Maybe next year huh ?

Like the late Mr. C said "some of you fools need to go back out on the track and slang dope"lol.
WTF? post like these are embarrassing to the Bay.

How is it that our chance is lost when we really just gettin started towards the mainstream again? Moves are being made in the Bay as we speak. The shit is a grind, it aint supposed to happen overnight. You talkin bout what Mike Jones did and what not, but did you know that he released "still Tippin" like a year and a half before he ever made a video for it? Of course not, he had to hustle and get it out there just like any other underground artist. I heard about Mike jones a couple years ago when i was in ATL and he was promotin this same album. Thats the thing the south is known for. When i was going to school in ATL i would hear songs for over a year before they made it to the mainstream. We dont do this in the Bay at all. We always give up on albums instead of puttin forth effort to get it out there so others can be exposed to it. We always talkin down on cats recyclin tracks and shit but the shit works. just because the song aint hot in the bay anymore doesn't mean an artsit should stop promotin it outside the Bay.

You cats need to relax and let the shit happen instead embarrassing the bay wit these dumb as threads. "the bay has lost its chance" the fuck outta here. Its july and you talkin bout "maybe next year huh" like the year is over. Remember keak got a new one comin this year and so does 40, The Team, Balance, etc.... And lets not forget that The Jacka shit is bubbling around the country. My florida and ATL homies is talkin bout they copped his shit and they feelin it. "Super Hyphy" just came out a couple months ago so give some time to circulate around the country.

This shit is really pathetic to come to a Bay forum and see these types threads on a daily basis. If I wasn't from the Bay I would think it was nothin but a bunch of clowns out here. We the only ones making these desperate sounding threads. You wont see none of this type shit in no other regions forum because they to busy pumpin they shit up and tryin to advance they artist. We got the underground hustle down but boy do we have a lot to learn.

You know I am astonished at the amount of "experts" that think the bay had its chance. Everyone is entitled to there opinion however, but let me explain a few things.

Mike Jones- the reason they are doing well is because Lyor Cohen and Warner Bros (Asylum Records) are putting a lot of money into the project. Keep in mind however these guys moved some 200 thousand records though indy. That alone got the majors attention. If you don't have high dollars you will get no promotion on television and radio. Both entities are very political, which is why you never see Jacka get much love on KMEL. Shit I don't even understand why KMEL dont fuck with us much, but ill bet some people know the secret of getting into radio at 106.

Second, the bay IS hot right now. That is why you see a lot of artists shouting us out and getting at us more. Did yall know how big this market is? Game soundscaned around 90 thousand in this region (SF BAY AREA) alone. So dont be surprised if artists fuck with us because the market here is wide open. So if stations like 94.9 and 106 fucked with more artists you would see better numbers. This in turn will show the majors that we deserve a shot. Its all politics, I have learned that in my short years in this business.

Long story short, if you expect to see the bay on MTV and BET real soon forget about it cause it aint happening. We need to get bigger media conglomerates supporting us because NONE of us have the money to do what the Warner Bros Aslymum records, Bad Boy, Def Jam's, and so on can do. We all need to focus on the business and just do our thing, fuck them anyway. We can sell ten thousand records and take that 80 thousand and build. I know we arent waiting to walk in someones shoes, being barefoot is a bitch. So until we get some REAL support, we gotta take care of ourselves.

theres alot that the bay needs....

COLLABS - lil jon been collabin wit everyone. ying yang, lil scrappy, t.i etc. all been doin collabz wit eachother only helpin eachother and the souf. a grip of collabz gettin hella airplay all the time. for example, that lil jon and usher - yeah. that waz a hit. mike jones and ying yang - bad= thas a hit. a big name on a track, thas a hit. but a couple big namez thrown on a track, now thas for sure a radio/tv banger gettin played a grip.

MUSIC VIDS - another way of big big promotion. that aint jus coverin a region but the gettin played everywhere. how is mike jones gettin pushed so much? every BET show iz pushin that song by playin "still tippin" or "back then" and it will continue to only grow. i agree, the bay needs music videos. fuck hood fame and gettin this on the net, i rather see it on BET. even if its on BET's uncut. at least thas a start.

STREET TEAMS - foo'z need good patnaz behind their back pushin their shit. flaunt the cd's. give sum out for free. posters, tee's, do whatever u need to get ur voice out there and KNOWN. fanz needa call in and request it on the radios. if they bitch about they dont have it, slap em wit the MP3. keep pushin and pushin for bay shit. not jus a track, ask for any bay and make sure they dont pull sum mac dre shit or sumthin (no disrespect but everyone knows dudez muzik) a bay pioneer thas dead wont help the bay.

time to step up and send ur muzik to anyone thas willin to play it. hit up strawberry, hit up 102.5, hit up 106, whatever u got. u gotta be a hustler frum all anglez

thas jus sum of the wayz the bay could get recognized. the other reason iz becuz the muzik is so different than the others. other people are ignorant and dont like bay muzik when really, its similar 2 the souths. the trends, lifestyle, cars, etc. iz all very alike. so if the south iz hot right now, the bay could be hot right now too. maybe even hotter. time to do sumthin tho and thas fashigido.

I respect your opinion as a person but as a manager.............were you responsible for that wack ass video The Jacka had that was filmed at that bar ? If I got my facts fucked up I apologize. If you advised your client to release that I think your motives are suspect sir. I watched it because somebody said it was tight, and the song was, but the video left alot to be desired.

You dont know the facts homie, but I dont need to explain. Either way we got videos out which is more than I can say for most cats. Did you see the Barney video?
I didn't see the Barney video but I have heard good things about it. Where can I peep it at ? I know I may have come off half-cocked on that last response and I realize your points are valid. We need money to gain position.

Question. Why do ya'll want the Bay to go mainstream? Once that happens, niggas'll start saying the Bay is a buncha sellouts. I like it just the way it is. It makes me appreciate what my folks in the Bay are doing even more.

I fully agree with franknitty's comments in this thread and especially now that im purusing a degree in business what he said makes sense not just from a independent hustlers standpoint as i have been for the past three years but also from a mainstream business standpoint.
