My Cali check from last year bounced. No joke. The bank mailed it back. I thought it was good for a year.

Hopefully they'll send me a new one this year.

if so fuckin confused on our taxes. we've always gotten money back, never had to owe shit. now this year i put all out numbers into H&R Blocks At Home software and it says we owe $704. so im lookin at my wifes W2 and she only paid 581.66 in federal withholding taxes with wages tips etc in box 1 being 22,377. her filling status is married with 1 allowances, same as on mine but i paid $4250 in federal income tax withheald which is a much greater percentage of my wages than hers is but we are both claiming married 1. i dont know what the fuck is going on

do weekly paid jobs have any federal taxes taken out? I dont remember them taking any out and I lost my last check stub from that place.
Im thinking of just filing already cause I got the one from my current job.
but then the state tax... is there a certain percentage they give you back from each deduction?

If they take state taxes they take federal.

I'm pretty sure that legally companies have to get the W2 to you by Jan 31.

I can't say for sure but I don't think it's a percentage for each person you claim, it's more like each person you claim is worth a specific dollar amount.

Your best bet is to not listen to me, except when I say "stay the fuck away from H&R Block". They are NOT "tax professionals", they're seasonal workers that spent a few hours getting certified. Do you know how to click a mouse on a computer? Yes? Then you're just as qualified as 98% of all H&R Block employees. Turbo tax is what you want.

W-2 forms must be furnished to you by January 31. This means that your employer must have your W-2 postmarked before or on the date of January 31. Failure to comply will result in penalties for your employer. If you do not receive your W-2, you can take action. Your first course of action is to contact your employer and inform them that you have not received it.

If you have not received your W-2 by February 15, the IRS states that you should call them at 1-800-829-1040 and provide them with your name, address (including zip code), phone number, Social Security Number, dates of employment, your employer name, address (including zip code), and phone number. They will then contact your employer for you and will send you a Form 4852 to complete. This also applies to 1099's.

W2's have to be post-dated by the 31st, I believe.
