When Capcom finally revealed that it was working on Street Fighter IV, it did so with a trailer that suggested plenty but specified nothing. Today the publisher finally set in stone some details of the game.

As suggested by the trailer, Street Fighter IV will feature stylized 3D graphics, but Capcom said that the gameplay will have a "2D perspective with additional 3D camera flourishes." In further nods to series traditionalists, the game will have the same six-button layout as previous Street Fighter games, as well as familiar faces including Ken, Ryu, Chun-Li, and Dhalsim. However, not everything will remain the same; Capcom has said it will introduce new special moves, techniques, locations, and gameplay systems.

Several major details--platforms and a projected release date among them--remain under wraps.

This will not be the first time the Street Fighter series has ventured into the third dimension. Arika developed the Street Fighter EX arcade spin-off in 1996, as well as a handful of sequels and PlayStation ports. However, that spin-off series has been dormant since Street Fighter EX3 debuted alongside the PlayStation 2 in 2000.

RUMORS about the game: The game takes place after Super Street Fighter II Turbo and before SFIII. Shen Long may be a playable character. Parrying is gone, and a new system built around cancels will be making it's debut (called Revenge or Saving). There will be a seperate meter for the "Revenge" moves, along with the classic super meter bar. There are also new moves/combos called "Ultras." Ultras allow your character to perform an auto combo, similar to Ultra combos from Killer Instinct perhaps? We'll see...
