Armed Robbers Steal Jewelry At Southland Mall

HAYWARD (BCN) ― The robbery of a jewelry kiosk in Hayward's Southland Mall Wednesday became the third major gun-related incident to plague the shopping center this year.
Hayward police responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the Treasure Island jewelry kiosk at Southland Mall around 10:20 a.m., police Sgt. Steve Brown said.
A man had approached a kiosk salesperson and asked to see several pieces of jewelry, Brown said.
When the attendant returned with the items, the suspect revealed a handgun, grabbed six or seven pieces and fled through the mall's south entrance before police arrived, Brown said.
Police could not confirm if there was a getaway car.
This was third gun-crime committed at Southland Mall this year.
In May, a man was shot to death following an argument in a mall shoe store.
In August, up to six armed robbers hit Highline Jewelers, also in the Southland Mall.
There is no known connection between the incidents, police said.
Police are reviewing video surveillance and the investigation is ongoing.
