bad example of whatever point your trying to make.. last i remember, "best" is determined by sales which is supported by spins from the radio..
i'm not saying play nothing but bay shit just cause its local. its a business thing and the people with the most money get spins, i understand that but at least.. at least.. at least play some local songs that are worth getting spins. i'm sure there's something from the bay thats worth playing on the radio. it is the dj's job to find whats hot whats not.

Fuck Radio
All the garbage they play on there n Von is talkin bout talent. Drake n 50 talk on records. No lyrical form. Let's use turf talks album westcoast vaccine as an example. Solid album. Even had 3-4 radio friendly songs but only time shit would get played was by request or like after 11 pm. Soulja Boy is the worst. You mean to tell me souljas shit right now is better then j stalins shit. Who ever said Von is a puppet hit it right on the nose. He only listens to the whip sound his masters whip makes when it hits him on the back. He's a radio slave like 80% of the lames on the radio. Take a risk you pussy put some bay shit on. Now on the other side. More then half of the shit the bay is putting out is garbage. All these weak ass mixtapes. N I say more then half cus more then half of the shit out there are mix tapes.

I was in orange county last weekend and they were playing local la based rappers shit. Rappers that don't get play n some of us probaly don't even know. Power 106 in LA shows alot of love to there local artist. Even phone interviews n let them get a lil exposure. I heard NY n Atlanta is the same. Gucci Mane is a good example. Funny how it's the same story in every major city & every shit hole town in between when it comes to local artist. I just read 6 pages of complaints & good points, but not one solution to the problem.
Did anybody ever think that the reason radio stations don't play locals for the simple fact that we are trying too hard? We're back to the 90's mentality to not want to sell out & stay real. It's 2010 & staying real don't pay the bills.
Anybody can rap about their grandma's tore up kicks & nylon stalkings... as long as they can "ENTERTAIN" you for 3 minutes, it's a hit on the radio (hence a good beat etc...).
I don't mean to kick into a shamless plug, but that's why I started to work on a documentary on independent artist. It's the same sad story everywhere you go. Only difference is, I documented it on film & stepped outside the blunt smoking, boast & bragging of keeping it real etc etc...
At the end of it all, everybody has a dream...

I see alot of backseat drivers sayin' "Well what we need is *this*" or "What we need to do is *that*" but no one is grabbin the fuckin wheel and driving.
If you're a Bay Area independant artist and bitch about radio play even though you don't have an album out, what good is it for you to get radio play? No one can buy your shit even if they wanted to! And for those who think it's vital for sales and success, it's not. Unless you wanna do yet another "chea we in da club poppin bottles fuckin models" type song which to ME is worse than no radio play at all, get yourself known locally with QUALITY shit. Local meaning your home town first, then expand. It ain't fuckin rocket science.

I think everyone bitches about radio cause the artists who dont wanna pay to get on also know that its not a good investment cause they arent one of the best rappers in there circle so why sit here and act like paying a dj or radio promoter would work, they know deep down inside and dont wanna admit they know there chasing a dream that wont reach the surface of there expectations. Those of us who do understand and are appreciative that we really can get something on the radio is all due to respect of when to promote to the radio. Like Von Said, just cause you make music dont mean you crank out hits. From Jacka and Erk Tha Jerk, two hottest radio artists right now, all put in bonifide street promotions, are stand up people, know what they needed to do, did it. They walked to the radio with hits, and instant classics, not I wasted 5 years making music that sucked and expected something for doing it. If you aint meant to pimp, dont pimp, aint meant to rap, dont rap, if you aint meant to do something, why waste your time chasing at it, radios for the elite artist who is commercially sounds enough to stand a chance, lets face reality here people.
what happens after you get on the radio? It definitely doesn't turn you into a millionaire, and it definitely doesn't mean your dope. And to top it off it definitely doesn't mean you will get played every hour after that. You can put an end to all of this by doing a few things :
1. Email Big Von at the "hometurf" gmail, bitch, complain, beg, kiss ass, "be real", or threaten him with your music. See how that works out for you.
2. Find a radio station rep that can get you played after you pay them for it. Like $2500-3000 - maybe even a month.
3. Go to KPOO radio 89.5, college radio, Deez Nuttz radio, sac town radio, (OR ANY OTHER STATION THAN JUST KMEL) and get your music played by building a "RELATIONSHIP" with these DJ's like Rick Deez, and DJ X1 of KPOO.
I manage a number of artists, and building relationships is what makes me an asset to anyone's music career, (having the right relationships/outlets). I can't go around bitching or complaining about things because someone doesn't like my artists' music, or even their attitude. I have to deal with it, and find other ways of getting to the goal I am searching for.
