^true, but this cat is makin a lot of money off these tapes. if he's sellin someone else's music without permission, it's illegal. simple as that. mixtapes are supposed to be given away for free as promo materials. the only cost should be the price of shipping. that's what i thought at least.
True, but he is not sellin somebody elses music most of the shit he puts out like the gangsta grillz series are done WITH the actual artists not like these djs that just put a bunch of leaked songs together and call it a mixtape.. he actually makes the mixtapes with the artists and its nothing but exclusive shit recorded for the mixtape...

the only thing he could get nailed for is using copyrighted beats or tax evasion.. but like i said in the other thread labels and artists never reall tripped on people usin other peoples beats on mixtapes cuz they was doing it too and mixtapes were looked at as a form of promo.. but i guess they feel like they cakin up too much off the shit..

I don't listen to mixtapes so I don't know exactly what's going on but, don't they use beats from artists other than those featured on the mixtape?

Thats real...If you do a mixtape WITH The Artist then whats the problem...if you takin others songs then i see
alot of these artists are signed to major labels and are under contract. so whatever they record with whoever usually belongs to the label.

mixtapes should be legal. thats bullshit. its a good avenue for djs to eat and promote artists. if anything they should target downloadin and internet piracy
Yeah they should be putting that time and money into fightin internet piracy i mean you take down like 6 of the biggest sites thats already a big percentage of internet downloading.. cuz its only a few big sites that ripgroups and regular people post their albums on.. most other sites get their shit from those mainsites.. i mean they will eventually make new sites and find new ways to get it online.. but i feel like if they really put in the time and stay on it they could do alot.

exactly downloadin doing some serious damage. hiphop sales alone was down 20% this year which is very big. i wonder if its due to poor quality albums or just downloadin itself. whateva the case is, i still see just a lot of people downloadin. i still go out there and support good hiphop albums.

true but here's what i think about mixtapes.... they are great exposure when u have someone like drama, kayslay, skee, clinton sparks, whookid, erock etc etc. behind it BUT.........

i know djs work their way up by putting out these mixtapes and hustling so they can reach that level but its not helping artists our when u got all these random mixtapes coming out.... its cool for fans but not for artists! they all have the same singles on it and having their NO name stamp behind it dont mean shit to a fan! not dissing any mixtape djs just giving u my perspective on it and i know u guys will turn around and say that u r giving artists exposure.... no not really cuz the songs u r putting on there are usually all over the radio!

Both.. as far as sales declining becuz of lack of quality why would anyone want to spend 14 dollars on an album that only got like 4 good songs on it ? i havent heard an album i could play all the way trough in years !

but at the same time even if all the artists would step it up.. it wouldnt make much of a difference cuz most people are already too stuck in their ways and alot of kids grew up with downloadin so they gone continue to download anyway.

With fightin internet piracy i meant retail albums.. i dont care about mixtapes too much unless its all exclusive songs but even then hearing people rap over the same beats over and over again gets old.

The only mixtapes i really fuck with is some kay slay, whoo kid and some of drama shit cuz they actually do exclusive mixtapes not just a bunch of leaked songs that are already available on the net or are on the radio already.

At the end of the day it can be good promo but 90 % of these mixtape djs just tryin to get money they care less about helpin the artist out. If you puttin out a mixtape with a bunch of songs that are already out there its only good promo if you are pushin it to a different market/region.

You're assuming they're not...
