he Oakland Raiders, through owner Al Davis and Raiders chief executive Amy Trask, are negotiating to sell off another percentage of the team, this time to a billionaire who has been trying to buy a franchise with designs on moving it to Los Angeles, according to league sources.

Trask has been spearheading negotiations with a group headed by C. Dean Metropoulos in a transaction that would sell at least 10 percent stake in the Raiders, sources said. Forbes Magazine has estimated the Raiders' value at a little more than $800 million, but league sources say the calculation is closer to $700 million.

The Raiders sold 20 percent of the team in October 2007 to three businessmen to get more cash infusion, which is also the goal on the latest transacton, the sources said. However, the 2007 sell-off did not give those investors an option to purchase the team and Davis remained in control as majority owner.

Metropoloulos' lead broker is trying to negotiate a purchase option on the Raiders within 3-5 years upon closing the deal, sources said.

Metropoulos had been identified previously by the Philadelphia Daily News last off-season as an aggressive buyer with a desire to relocate a franchise to Los Angeles. He has publicly denied his reported attempts, but sources confirm their veracity.

The Raiders and Jaguars were teams previously identified among those franchises and the latest round of talks with Oakland have been renewed after Jacksonville owner Wayne Weaver rebuffed Metropoulos' bid because he opposed any plan to relocate the franchise, sources said.

^^ i dont think Davis will give up control. I did some reading on the raiders at work and everytime he sells part of the team he makes it so he still has control. back in the days he wasnt the majority owner and yet he ran all operations. hes a smart businessman.
They better not go back to LA. Fuck LA

hypothetical here, but what would you chose if you had to pick one outcome..

Move the team to L.A under new ownership (no davis)

Stay the same as you are right now.

honestly... probably stay the same

I would hate for my team to be 6 hours away... I like rooting for my local team

and even if we get new ownership... there's no saying whether or not this owner is gonna cause the team to win... plus Al Davis is gonna die eventually... he can't have that much longer to live

i cant hate on davis, after reading up on my Raider history, hes done so much good for the team in the past that i just cant be mad. Davis isnt the one on the field playing like shit. I think we need a stable coach and stick with them for 3+ years before we start calling for him to be fired. fuck the off season, next season needs to start already. i dont give a fuck about this year anymore.

i agree with the change, and with the idea of a defensive coach. but the only coach we stuck with for awhile recently was Jon Gruden, and that worked out very well. if he had stayed for one more season we would have won the superbowl. i think stability is the key for the Raiders

word... I'll still be a Raiders fan though
Why wouldn't you? After all, they've betrayed you in the past and moved to LA before.

If the Niners left the Bay Area, I wouldn't have a team. There's no way I can root for another team and I wouldn't be able to bring myself to support a team that has betrayed me and moved away from its roots. I'm a SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS fan, not a [Insert City Here] 49ers fan.

At least Santa Clara is still in the Bay and they will still be the SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS if they have to move there. When it's all said and done, I have a feeling the new stadium will be in Hunters Point anyway.
