What if you're not homophobic but you don't believe in gay marriage? Isn't marriage traditionally a religious thing? I know it's legally binding, but the actual act of marriage is said to be between a man and a woman according to religion, right? Gay people still have the same rights as married couples if they handle their stuff correctly.

In any case, I'm not against people being gay. If that's what they want to do, I'm all for it. I'm just not sure on the whole marriage thing.

thats what has me the most torn in this prop actually. My religion. I want to vote yes just based off of that. But the government has made marriage an institution in itself, not just the church. To have certain priveleges, u need to be married, so this takes marriage outside of the bible which makes things confusing.

I would vote yes if it was just for the word marriage, but with all the beauracy attached to the insitution of marriage, it becomes a lot harder to advocate it based only on religious beliefs.

If a woman has a partner for 30 years and her partner gets breast cancer, that partner SHOULD BE ABLE TO VISIT her in the hospital period.

Im all about civil unions, but the word marriage falls into a grey area between religion and certain rights given to you by the government if you are.

Its a very complicated issue.

Are gay relationships as credible and legitimate as straight relationships?

Can gay people love eachother? sure.

Can gay people start a family? No, but they could adobt or incimination.


My opinion is this, ban gay marriage but give them the same rights under a different tittle. Call it a union or some shit cuz I feel for the people who think Marriage is a holly right between man woman and GOD. Marriage is to combine two families and create new life. Gay couples cannot do that so its not a true marriage.

I don't think they should be discriminated against tho' give them all the rights as a straight couple but under a different name. Plus they need to prove they actually a couple because some gay and straight people will abuse the system just to get tax breaks and medical benefits etc...

For one, WHAT religion? There are PLEEEENTY of religions/cultures that allow marriage, sex and other relationship between same sex individuals, (example: Indian Hinduism, Somoan, etc.) so, don't group Judaism, Islam and Christianity as the only religions, that is a logical fallacy.
Marriage is an instution that allows two individuals to be legal bound as partners for life, incase one dies, the other will be in charge of what is left(children, house, etc.). It is NOT a religious institution because there is marriage in all cultures and all religions, so it cannot be solely religious. Plus, there are athiests that marry all the time, they do not get married in churches, and just get the LEGAL document(just like getting a legal document like social security card, etc.) to pronounce that they are married by law?

No, if you could logically and not ethnocentrically explain a reason by which 2 people who want to be legally married, and if something is to happen to one, then the other will have full custody to help decide on things, and do what is good for that person, SHOULDN'T BE LEGALLY bound to one another. then, well shit, YOU should be a lawyer! haha
