Their defense wasn't good enough to stop Brees and the Colts were out-coached.

Yep, the Colts were outcoached. Peyton Manning threw 1 int that doesn't mean he choked. Reggie's and Peyton's timing were off (probably because of the blitz) and Porter made a great play. Maybe they ran that play too many times and Porter was waiting for it.

Bottom line is that the Saints took risks and the conversative Colts didn't. The Saints' risk paid off in the end. The Colts head coach sucks in my opinion, he's too damn convservative. He didn't even blitz Brees when Brees got hot. He continued to rush only 4 defenders and it's sad when the only guy that got a sack had a tore up ankle. The Colts had two weeks to prepare for the Saints, they should have had some different blitz packages ready.

^^^ thats hypocritical to me cuz only reason the Colts make it to the Superbowl is cuz of Peyton, they had the worse running game in the league and made it to the superbowl this season, once again folks its a team sport. What does that say? Folks saying Montana is so much better cuz he never lost in the Super Bowl, imagine Peyton Manning on a team with no salary cap.

brady, warner, brees, favre are all better in the clutch than peyton. manning is the best overall qb in the league by far simply for what he does as the offensive coordinator of the colts, but when the games on the line ill take the above 4 qbs without hesitation.

because they were so clutch this year right?!?!

Yeah but you can kind of blame Manning for that since he is the highest paid NFL player. Goes both ways.

This is a load of shit. The Colts play decent defense, win the Super Bowl and the D gets the credit among people who refuse to give Peyton his dues. If it wasn't for Peyton they wouldn't even have made it to the damn playoffs that year in the first place. Their D was ranked in the bottom half of the league. That doesn't get you to the playoffs unless you have a beast of an offense, which they did, BECAUSE OF PEYTON MANNING.

You fools are crediting a defense that played pretty good football, not excellent football like a defense that is being credited for a Super Bowl win should have played. They did not do anything spectacular in the playoffs, they just finally did their fuckin job and people took notice. Why? Because they never helped Peyton before that! Plain and simple.

Take Peyton out of Indianapolis in the 06 playoffs and have the defense play the same way it did - they don't get past the divisional round and even if they did, there's no way in hell they get around New England in the AFC Championship game. Without Peyton there's no Super Bowl berth, period.

People who are solely crediting their defense for that win are fuckin idiots. It did help, obviously, but almost every single championship team had a fuckin defense that did what it was expected to do. Like I said, if they did their job more often, Peyton would have 4-5 championships by now and this year's Super Bowl would have been another win under his belt.

As for Peyton Vs. Joe Montana, I think if Peyton was given the same teams that Joe won with, he would be able to win with them as well. Joe was far more clutch, but Peyton could have put those come-from-behind victories out of reach before it ever came down to needing to be clutch. That's my honest opinion. I love Joe Montana, but I am no blind homer. Joe did what had to be done and there's no other QB I'd choose with the game on the line, but Peyton Manning, with a top defense and a surrounding cast like Joe had, not to mention a coach the caliber and genius of Bill Walsh, could have accomplished the same - or more.

you're a dumbass! get off peyton's nuts already son! you sound like trent dilfer when his panties get all wet just thinking of manning. besides same could be said about sanders and freeny, if they werent their they wouldnt of won a super bowl. peyton needs a defense. for example this year freeny not being 100% and one of the starting corners going out of the game, Manning couldnt get the job done.

Everybody needs a defense you fuckin moron. That was my point. People are crediting them for winning the Super Bowl, but in reality they finally did their fuckin job when it mattered.

Do you ever wonder why everyone flames you on this site? Or why nobody ever bothers to have a serious debate with you? Or why you even get flamed by fellow Niner fans? I've avoided conversing with your stupid ass for the simple fact that you claim to be a Niner fan, but truth be told, you are the Czar of Niner fans. Nobody takes you seriously because you never provide a real argument. The one you just provided me is the same fuckin argument I was already making, but you were too dumb to realize it.

Stop posing as a Niner fan, Czar. It's not funny.

First of all, LOL @ trying to insult me by saying I sound like somebody who gets paid to write about sports. You got me there, big guy. How can I come back from such a massive blow?

Second, which part of me telling you that you're an idiot made it look like I was trying to act like the ultimate Niner fan? I never said I was a bigger fan than anyone else, I said the only reason I ignored your ignorance and didn't insult you in the past is because you said you were also a Niner fan. If you were a fan of any other team I would have called you on your idiocy long ago like almost every other fan of every other team on this forum has already done.

How was that even considered a "comeback?" I didn't even know I was insulted with any jabs of substance that would require a comeback. You called me a dumb ass. Big deal.

Anyway, I didn't say any of that to trade insults with you, I was actually just asking if you've ever wondered why nobody takes you seriously. Even though you avoided the questions, I got my answers.

Even though Solitary and I don't agree on many things, he's one of the more knowledgeable posters on this forum. Once again, you've hit me with an insult of such magnitude that I simply cannot recover. :eyecross:

What a compelling argument. I mean shit, how can you argue with someone who says something like "Brady>Manning" and provides no argument to back his claim, and then tries to pass it off as a fact? Right?

What a fuckin moron.

It's funny how your stupid ass tries to credit the Colts defense for winning the Super Bowl, but then you turn around and ride Brady's dick when his defense and kicker are more responsible for his championships than he is. On top of that, he experience success due to Bellicheat's system. Look what Matt Cassell did in that same system. The motherfucker put up very good numbers and the team went 11-5! Take your head off of Tom Brady's lap and think before you type for once.

Rick Stewart/Getty Images SO...who is better, Peyton Manning or Ben Roethlisberger?

The 2009 NFL season has been over for less than a week, and I think I have already read 412 different articles debating this question. Colts fans are quick to throw stats such as regular season winning percentage in Steelers' faces, while Steeler Nation is quick to point to Manning's 9-9 playoff record, and 1-1 Super Bowl record.

Both sides have a great argument. Here are the stats that you will be able to find in just about every article. Out of fairness, we are only comparing the first six years of their careers.

Touchdowns:

Manning: 167 Tds.

Roethlisberger: 127 Tds.

Interceptions:

Manning: 110 Ints.

Roethlisberger: 81 Ints.

Completion Percentage:

Manning: 62.90 %

Roethlisberger: 63.3%

Passer Rating:

Manning: 88.08

Roethlisberger: 91.7

Yardage:

Manning: 24,885 yards

Roethlisberger: 19,302 yards

Completions:

Manning: 2,128 Completions

Roethlisberger:1,526 Completions

Attempts:

Manning: 3383 Attempts

Roethlisberger: 2411 Attempts

Playoff Record:

Manning- 2 wins 4 losses

Roethlisberger- 8 wins 2 losses

Thanks to Fritzie J. McBritches; I got those stats from his article, P. Manning Vs Roethlisberger: Who's Better?

By these stats, it is pretty clear that Ben Roethlisberger is the Superior QB to play the position at this point of his young career. This is where Colts fans start jumping up and down screaming that the Steelers were the better team at that point, and Roethlisberger was simply along for the ride.

Were the Steelers REALLY the better TEAM at that point?

Overall Record (Not Playoffs):

Pittsburgh: 65-31

Indianapolis: 64-32

Offense Rank (Average):

Pittsburgh: 14th

Indianapolis: Eighth (Colts' offense was ranked 19th in Manning's rookie season. Take that out, they would have been ranked third)

Defensive Rank (Average):

Pittsburgh: Third

Indianapolis: 17th

It is CLEAR that in these time periods, the Steelers were the better defensive team, while the Colts were the better offensive team. Both by large margins.

Is that directly related to the players? Lets take a look at how the Colts and Steelers spend their money.

Colts. Offense — $53.65 million, Defense — $28.75 million

Here are the top salaries of the Colts from this past year.

Peyton Manning (QB)—$18.7 million

Bob Sanders (S)—$8.75 million

Robert Mathis (DE)—$6.8 million

Reggie Wayne (WR)—$6.6 million

Ryan Diem (OL)—$6.3 million

Dwight Freeney (DE)—$5.75 million

Jeff Saturday (C)—$5.2 million

Raheem Brock (DT)—$4.72 million

Gary Brackett (LB)—$2.73 million

Dallas Clark (TE)—$2.5 million

Adam Vinatieri (K)—$2.35 million

Steelers. Offense — $37.4 million, Defense — $37.8 million

Ben Roethlisberger (QB)—$8 million

Troy Polamalu (S)—$6.8 million

Hines Ward (WR)—$6.7 million

Max Starks (OL)—$6.6 million

Casey Hampton (DT)—$6.4 million

Ike Taylor (CB)—$5.75 million

Aaron Smith (DE)—$4.75 million

James Farrior (LB)—$4.5 million

Willie Parker (RB)—$4.1 million

Brett Keisel (DE)—$4 million

Ryan Clark (S)—$2.2 million

This makes it clear the Colts spend most of their money on the offensive side of the ball, which would obviously put more talent on the offense. The Steelers evenly distribute the wealth on BOTH sides of the ball.

The Colts spent $53.65 million on offense, where the Steelers spent $37.4 million. That is a $17 million difference. Paying an average of just under $6 million per player, the Steelers could have an additional three Pro Bowlers on the offensive side of the ball. How much better could Roethlisberger's stats be with three Pro Bowl caliber offensive linemen?
It would be enough to close the gap, if not surpass the difference in stats between himself and Manning.
