TAKEO SPIKES AINT GOIN NOWHERE
SANTA CLARA — The 49ers re-signed three players Friday and arranged a visit with a little-known wide receiver on the first full day of the NFL’s free-agent signing period.
The 49ers reached contract terms with linebacker Takeo Spikes, fullback Moran Norris and return specialist Allen Rossum, according to several sources and reports. In addition, the 49ers have targeted Tennessee Titans free-agent receiver Brandon Jones.
Jones, 26, arrived in the Bay Area late Friday evening to undergo a physical. He is scheduled to meet this morning with coach Mike Singletary and general manager Scot McCloughan.
A four-year veteran, Jones is coming off his best NFL season. He started seven games and caught 41 passes for 449 yards and a touchdown. In his four-year career, Jones has 112 catches for 1,380 yards and nine touchdowns.
Spikes and Rossum played for the 49ers last season, while Norris played 11 games with the Detroit Lions after suiting up for the 49ers in the 2006 and ’07 seasons.
Spikes, an 11-year pro, returns to the 49ers after ranking second on the team with 122 tackles. He tied for the team lead with three interceptions.
Norris was the lead blocker for Frank Gore, helping him rush for a team-record 1,695 yards in ’06. He lost his job to Zak Keasey last season when the 49ers wanted more of a finesse fullback in Mike Martz’s offense.
Rossum ranked sixth in the league with a 26.8-yard average on 47 kickoff returns last season, including a 104-yard return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 10. Rossum also averaged 14.9 yards on 15 punt returns.
