Coming out of college, he was a system QB that never ran a pro-style offense. I thought it was a mistake when they drafted him because he doesn't have a great arm and he has small hands for being a 6'4" QB which leads to a lot of fumbles and inaccurate throws. The only thing that was appealing about him was that he's pretty mobile. I'd take him as a backup after restructuring his contract and seeing if we could get a late round pick for him.
^^
yup

nothing against alex smith but he was one of the worst 1st picks ever. He didn't deserved to be picked so high, and he got a different offensive coordinator every year with minimal playmakers which can not end up well.

Alex Smith = Tim Couch

Similar style in college…gets drafted by a bad team with no talent. Changing coaches and coordinators every year…and eventually becoming a bust.

I always thought Couch got a bad deal too…especially because he did lead the Browns to the playoffs.

Guess we’ll see what happens…but the chances of Alex coming back and tearing up the league like the first pick should be doing are slim to none.

there is a fine line between number one overall picks living up to there name. Especially at the quarterback postition. so im not ready to him a bust because he hasnt lived up to the hype, if given the chance in the right system he could be effecient, most teams thats all they want from a qb

I said the same thing about Couch...eventually I had to wake up from my dream.

Alex will probably be out of the league in a coule of years too.

Ive always said give a rookie qb a offensive line like Tom Brady has and he will eventually become good
