one game at a time...

i'd like to see more of the same as against the eagles defensively. different looks, switching up to cover 2, etc. i didnt know blitzing linebackers was even in our defensive playbook. keep them guessing and apply pressure. solely relying on your front four is how good teams get beat. with 5+ seconds in the pocket and no pressure, 99% of NFL QB's will eat you up. nobody can cover that long consistently.

offensively do just enough to win. i am not mad.

Jets in a low scoring game

both D will play great, I think the raiders D set the tone and will keep it up for the rest of the season...so then it comes down to offense and even when sanchez has played shit he's still better than jamarcus..

I'm a 49er fan, but I got the raiders in this game. Due to the fact that last year the Raiders did beat the Jets I believe.....
Yeah but that was without head coach Rex Ryan. Rex is going to be dialing up blitzes like a mf... he's going to be coming after JR bringing straight heat.

Seymour thinks were playoff bound...

Seymour: Playoff time

Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour said to print those 2009 playoff tickets right now, because his team is headed for the postseason.

"You can mark it down," Seymour told the 1530 Homer radio station. "The Raiders will be in the playoffs."

First thought: Playoffs?!?, Jim Mora-style. Second thought: you know what? This is the sort of attitude the Raiders need, and it's not coming from some delusional wishful thinker. This is coming from a career winner.

The Raiders (2-4) may as well try to seize momentum and dream big while they can. It's been awhile they felt this good heading into Game 7.

Some quick notes from today's locker room ...

** Credit Al Gore for improving the Raiders' defense. Isn't he the one who said he invented the Internet?

Defensive end Greg Ellis has a private website set up that allows his teammates to study film and learn all sorts of cool things from the 12-year veteran. It's a members-only site for the Raiders, and Ellis wasn't giving many details.

But, the younger players said they have been using it to put in extra time away from the facility.

Ellis said his first mentor, Leon Lett, didn't offer him any Web lessons back in the day.
"With Leon, we had VCR tapes," Ellis laughed.

** Ellis wasn't laughing when he opened a Fed-Ex letter moments later. It was the NFL, telling Ellis he was fined $5,000 for helmet-to-helmet contact with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Ellis was not penalized on the play during the game.

** Raiders coach Tom Cable is already downplaying Sunday's blitz-crazed victory over the Eagles, telling New York media they blitzed maybe seven or eight times.

Actually, they blitzed 15 times -- seven in the first half, eight in the second half -- after having but 20 blitzes in the first five games. Outside linebacker Thomas Howard he had seven-eight blitzes alone.

It may be Cable is trying to soften expectations of more blitzing against Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.

One point to consider if they scale it back: they didn't blitz the Eagles because of the quarterback, because Donovan McNabb is as veteran is it gets. They did it because the offensive line was injury-riddled and unprepared for it. That won't be the case for the Jets, who are healthy up front and getting ready for the blitz.

So if they don't blitz much Sunday, you'll know why.

** Rookie receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey lacks a catch in four of six starts, but the two-catch player does not lack in confidence.

Heyward-Bey says he grades out every game, and points to his run-blocking, route-running and decoy work as evidence. As for the inevitable comparisons to 49ers rookie Michael Crabtree, who will make his NFL debut Sunday?

"I'm aware of it, but I don't care about it," DHB said. "Because I can't sit there and worry about what people are gonna write about comparing. I need to worry about what the Raiders are doing here, how we're gonna win this division, how we're gonna go to the playoffs, how we're gonna reach our goals. So I can't worry about if I'm compared to somebody else. If I sit there and worry about that, I'm not worried about the right things."

We need San Diego to lose, Denver got a good head start... if we place 2nd we'll have a legit shot...
are you talking about a wildcard spot?

if so we need a lot more than just for SD to lose games

Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cincinnati will are all wildcard contenders... obviously one of those teams will win the division... but the other 2 will be up there... also NY(Jets), possible Miami... shit Houston could compete for a Wildcard too... they're good enough, they just need to start actually closing out games

honestly being realistic the playoffs is a long shot for us... but it's always good to have some hope

I'm glad Seymour said that though, I think the team has had a losing mentality over the past 6 seasons... Seymour comes from a winning franchise and brings that mentality to the team

even if we don't make the playoffs... if guys believe we can we can win some games along the way... and maybe next season... or shit maybe even this season... who knows, it's still early enough in the season, we just need to turn it around right now

yupp i agree with what he did even if theres like a 98% chance we dont make it. He brings a brand new attitude and pumps up the whole team to win more games instead of nobody saying shit

We play those teams from the NFC North so we contol our own destiny, we beat those teams, we'll own tie breakers. Raiders still have a decent shot to make the playoffs. I think Denver got it on lock so far in our division because they jumped out quick... they already beat New England, Cincinnati, and San Diego!

AFC North* (but I know what you meant)

but yeah, I agree... if we're able to pull of W's against those teams it will be huge for us

luckily we have Cincinnati and Baltimore at home

Baltimore and Pittsburgh aren't as good as I expected them to be, but they're still very solid teams... and are gonna be very tough games to win

but really... I think we're all kinda getting ahead of ourselves talking about the playoffs, I mean shit just last week we were talking about who we were gonna pick up in next year's draft, lol

we won 1 game... it was a nice win... but we should at least wait until we see if we can beat the Jets

in my opinion this game is huge... this is gonna tell us how the Raiders can handle success. In the past they've shown us they don't really handle it that well

if we can get a win here I think we have a good chance of carrying this momentum over to SD and possibly beating them in their house... we'd be .500 at our bye week and could go on from there

this week will tell us if the Raiders REALLY turned a corner or if they just played a good game and/or if Philly played a bad game
