well $hit i wanna free mic. and a free mixer and $ome free pro-tool$ $hit. too. and $ome frie$ and a $hake................. But on a real level Thi$ iz what i got $o far...Fruity loopz, $onyAcid,a mixer, a decent mic. and a keyboard...I heard that fruityloopz $tuff iz weak but it'z good for a beginner no doubt

Pro tools is NOT THE BEST its just the industry standard for recording studios across the world......if you plan on jus recording and takin your sessions to a professional studio and havin them mix it then pro tools is your best bet....but if you can handle mixin yourself theres a few good progams......
i use:

your gonna need a usb or firewire audio initerface for your comp......make sure it has phantom power for your mic

if you wanna make beats reason or fruity loops are about the only programs you can easily make beats wit on a comp.....i can hook you up in that area as well......
if you make beats on the comp then you need a usb midi keyboard.....not cuz it sounds better like someone else said....(midi doesnt produce sound it jus sends information to your system and tells it to play notes and velocities and such....the sound depends on your SYSTEM not the board) but because it will be more realistic to playin a real keyboard and give you the hands on instead of cliccin with the mouse.........the more sophisticated the board the more features it has and the more expensive they get.....some of them come combined with audio interfaces so you dont need to buy it seperately.....

otherwise your gonna have to cop a workstation keyboard like a Korg Triton Extreme, Roland Fantom, or Yamaha Motif

if you got 2-3 g's to spend cop this.....its a windows based pc built for music with keyboard attached....all you need is a mic and some monitors then you set.....

so as you see there are a lot of options out there.......nake sure you know what you need and what you dont before you waste money......and dont listen to too many people who barely know what they talkin about....ask some cats who been recording for a while if you need some tech advice.............checc out the studio forum here on siccness.....theres been lots of threads about this.......
then once you get all that figured out you get the fun of learnin how to hook it all up right and use it correctly.....this shit aint some overnight hobby mayne....i been doin it for years and finnally got it all down.......

come on tank you been doin this long enough i think you should know that pro tools doesnt change a thing about your vocals without you doin it yourself.....the quality might be better than cool edit but you still gotta edit and fucc wit your vocals to get the mix right regardless of what program you usin......pro tools aint magic its jus convenient....and you have to get the compatible interface wit pro tools so you end up payin out the ass jus for that shit.....
