I support all venues of MMA. Won some money tonight on Mir and Shammy. Lost on Verrisimo and Hallman. I knew once I saw Sylvia at the weigh in he was done. I have a lot of friends that fight in KOTC and Gladiator Challenge and the IFC so I always keep up with it. Speaking of Carter Williams I saw him get blasted out in the Gladiator Challenge about 2 years back. He has changed much since and put on a lot of muscle.

U.F.C. 48 Results & Thoughts

Ken Shamrock Defeated Kimo Leopoldo KO, 1:26 of Round 1.

This fight was not really what I expected. Well, I did think Ken Shamrock would win, but just not like that and that fast. Kimo outweighed Ken by quite a bit, but was still unable to take him down. Shamrock had Kimo in some kind of hold when out of nowhere came a knee to the chin. It was lights out for Kimo at that point. The only thing Ken had to say is "I'm back". It looks like Tito wants another piece of Ken now that he's healthy. Word is it might happen for U.F.C. 50. We'll see.

Frank Mir defeated Tim Sylvia TKO, 0:50 of Round 1.

Not what I expected at all. Sylvia seemed to have things in control for the first couple seconds while throwin some knees, but Mir caught him and took him down. Next thing you know he has Sylvia in an armbar. What followed next was not pretty at all. All you see is Sylvia's arm pop out of socket. To Sylvia's credit he did not tap out, but that may have costed him his career. He had his arm broken in two spots, but still wanted to continue. You gotta give this dude credit though cuz he had the heart to wanna continue. You don't see that much in this sport. So, Mir is the champion for now, but we'll see for how long.

Frank Trigg defeated Dennis Hallman TKO, 4:15 of Round 1.

There was a lot of bad blood in this one...well at least from Hallman, but in the end Trigg took care of that. He took Hallman to the ground and administered some ground and pound until the referee called a hault to the bout. At the end of the fight Trigg gave Hallman to middle fingers to the air to let him know what he thought of him.

Matt Hughes defeated Charuto Verrisimo 3rd Round Unanimous Decision

Now this decision I'm not too sure I agree with. Maybe Hughes pulled it off, but not by a unanimous decision. Verrisimo almost had Hughes in the first round with a triangle choke, but Hughes managed to get out. I guess people were sayin that had it been Pride rules the decision would've gone to Verrisimo because of all the submission attempts. I guess in the end Hughes did enough to win. Now let's see what happens for him next.

Evan Tanner defeated Phil Baroni 3rd Round Unanimous Decision.

This fight I was really dissapointed in. Baroni never quite figured out how to get to Tanner. I thought eventually Baroni would explode, but it never happened. Tanner even stood up with him most of the time and Baroni still couldn't figure him out. There were a few flurrys where I though Baroni was gonna take him down, but Tanner outlasted him. I don't know how much life Baroni will have in the U.F.C. He can't seem to figure out how to win lately. I still like him, but he needs to change his ways if he wants to stay and be a competitor. Props to Tanner for doin his job!

Matt Serra defeated Ivan Menjivar 3 Round Unanimous Decision

They didn't show this fight, but I saw bits of it in the end. I like Serra as a fighter. It's too bad they don't show the lighter division love cuz they really put their hearts on the line. I wish they would hurry and put the belt up for one of these lightweights to go out and get.

Trevor Prangley defeated Curtis Stout Neck Crank, 1:09 of Round 2

Another fight they didn't show so I don't have much to say about it. Maybe if they would show it then I could. I don't understand why they just can't show all the fights.

Georges St. Pierre defeated Jay Heiron TKO, 1:45 of Round 1

Now this fight they did show and it was a pretty good one. St. Pierre is undefeated and he showed why in this fight. He threw a flurry of puches on knocked Heiron to the ground where he went on to finish the fight. It will be nice to see Pierre in the U.F.C. in the future.

So, there you have it. This is my take on the event. Some might have different opinions, but these are mine. I expected better, but I think overall it was pretty good. I'll be lookin forward to the next event August 21st. Rematch of Vitor Belfort VS. Randy Couture. That should be good!

You see Ken get all pissed off at Tito, at the post fight conference...ha...sh was hilarious.

The card for UFC 49 is just sick.
Belfort and Couture rematch....Liddell and White...I just hope it really goes down.

I think Ken kinda got fired up for nothin, but I guess he felt that Tito was rainin on his parade. I think Tito is just lookin for his place in the U.F.C. again so that's why he's stirrin shit up. He's wanted to fight Lee Murray and I'm sure a list of others too. I would like to see him fight Ken again. I think the fight would be better now that Ken's healthy.

Belfort vs. Couture and Liddell vs. White will be goin down fo sho! I guess Liddell and White don't like each other. I guess Liddell doesn't even have to fight if he doesn't want to, but he wants to take White out. I guess he's next in line for the title after whoever wins in the Couture vs. Belfort rematch. We'll see what happens. Liddell is know for takin chances.

Oh ya...and Ortiz is still the champ.
Sorry to say it bro, but I don't think so. Unless Ortiz can come back and start winnin again he's goin to be a thing of the past. We'll see how he comes back after his last 2 losses. He has to come back hungrier than ever in my opinion if he wants to be champ again. My 2 cents.

where is the pride breakdown? did anyone see jackson slam that dude? (i cant remember his name) shit was wicked, i bet they both had really bad headaches,

ogowa vs. giant silva= ogowa by submission
herring vs. noguiera= noguiera by submission
sammy shilt vs. guile(cant remember his name)=guile by knockout
kevin randleman vs. fedor=fedor by submission but kevin got in a real good slam that i thought could have easily ended the fight but fedor turned it around and got the americana

other fights:

sakaraba vs. elvis
sakaraba looked a little old and a little comatosed, not his usual self, but i think he did punish elvis good, he landed 2 beautiful liver kicks, and lots of punches, when on the ground he just layed and prayed, which is unusual for sakaraba. if you recall elvis knocked sakaraba out in his last fight.

jackson vs. some dude

good fight, both were game and the fight was looking even until an axe kick from dudes back looked to knock out jackson for a brief second but the ref seemed to miss it, then dude went to put a triangle choke on jackson and he lifted dude up and slammed him and dudes head bounced off the canvas and slammed back into jacksons head full force knocking him out, jackson was cut and givin the victory.

yoshida vs. mark hunt

this fight was ok, i knew right of the bat mark was going to get submitted, he defended a few take downs and submissions and landed some grazing blows, but yoshida eventually got him in an armbar for the victrory, it was hunts debut in the pride, he came over from K-1

there might have been one more fight but i dont remember.

It was a pretty good weekend of MMA, having both Pride and UFC on back to back nights. The same thing is going to happen in August again, with UFC and Pride once again playing on consecutive nights. Overall, Pride was the better show with all the matches being good. No real surprises, but the slam by Jackson on Arona was awesome, and when Randleman slammed Fedor I thought it was all over. The finals of the GP should be interesting, I think Nog will end up winning it. I also want to see Ogawa finally face a real fighter so we can see his ass get kicked, I can't stand that fucking guy and the for the simple fact that Pride is giving him the easiest matchups each round.

UFC surprised me quite a bit, I thought Sylvia would KO Mir with ease. I guess Mir is a lot better than I gave him credit for, but I still don't care for him and I hope to see him get killed by Arlovski. Baroni looked like shit, he gassed out and didn't really go anything. Its obvious he is more talk than anything else, and should probably head down to the smaller shows and get some wins under his belt before he makes a comeback to the UFC. Hughes shouldn't have gotten that decision, but since he is one of the big names in the UFC it doesn't shock me that they gave it to him, setting up the chance for him to win the vacant belt. Ken looked decent but he is still a fighter I don't give a shit about, he doesn't really excite me. Setting up a fight with Tito will probably be a huge draw for the UFC, but the outcome will most likely be the same as the first fight.

Ortiz will most likely fight Rich Franklin in October.

All Ortiz has to do is avenge one of his last two losses and everyone will think he is back in it. As for me and the rest of the Ortiz fans, he never left.

Unfortunately I didn't get to watch this event. I had to choose between U.F.C. or Pride and I chose to get the U.F.C. I kinda wish I would've gotten Pride instead, but I had to roll the dice. I might still do a breakdown of the Pride event anyway since I already know who won. I have my thoughts on all the fights so when I have a minute I'll break it down.

I am almost certain that Ortiz is fighting Ken Shamrock at UFC 50, I guess if Ken beat Kimo he was guaranteed a rematch with Tito. Also, Franklin has decided to move down to 185 division so don't expect that match up to happen.

They are talking about Ken fighting Tito, everywhere. Even on the Ortiz site. I just dont think it will happen. No one wants to see it, it is too big of a gamble for the UFC to have either fighter lose, and I believe it is a waste of Tito's time.

Lets just wait till October. I will be very surpirsed if it happens.

This doesn't seem like one of their better cards, but for $19.95 I'll most likely get it anyway just to see how it goes. I like Brazil vs. Japan. 2 very strong teams. And I alwayz like to see Cro Cop fight so it should be interestin. Anybody else lookin to watch this?

U.F.C. 49

Well, I ended up buyin the Pay Per View for this event and let me tell you I was not dissapointed. I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure there were big enough names to carry this event, but boy was I impressed. Here's my take on all the fights.

Randy Couture vs. Vitor Belfort

Randy Couture pushed the action all the way through. I give Vitor credit for havin a lot of heart, but damn he lost a lot of blood. After 3 rounds of punishment it was all over. Couture once again became champ. The cool part was that he challenged Vanderlai Silva after the fight to unify the titles. I like the respect that Vanderlai showed Couture. No bad talk or anything like that. Now that fight would be somethin to watch.

Joe Riggs vs. Joe Doerksen

This was a pretty impressive fight. What impressed me most is that Joe Riggs used to be a 300 lb. fighter and now he's fightin at 185. He really impressed me. This one ended by a submission to strikes in the 2nd round.

Chuck Liddell vs. Vernon White

This one really had me excited. Especially for the fact that these 2 guys really hated each other. They were both exchangin punches for a while and it was lookin like Liddell was startin to gas, but in the end he hit Vernon with a straigh punch and knocked him out. Good fight!

Matt Lindland vs. David Terrell

I really didn't expect Matt Lindland to lose this one being that he was one of the top fighters at his weight. David Terrell came out blazin and knocked Matt Lindland out cold in the 1st round. Another good fight!

Justin Eilers vs. Mike Kyle

This was a bout that brought two really good friend together to fight each other. What was crazy is that Justin Eilers in his interview before the fight sais that he didn't care who he had to fight, he would even fight his mother. That's nuts! Anyway, Eilers put an end to Mike Kyle with a pretty vicious left hook.

Chris Lytle vs. Ron Jhun

This was a pretty good fight all together. Everythang was goin back and forth until Lytle got Jhun in a guillotine choke and Jhun couldn't escape no matter what he tried to do. I think this was the only win by submission of the night which was nice.

Karo Parysian vs. Nick Diaz

I was really excited about this fight for some reason and for a minute I didn't think they would even show it, but I was glad they did. They only showed 2 rounds, but it was still pretty enertainin. Parysian pulled it off by decision. I was impressed by him cuz I thought Diaz who knocked out Lawler would have a good chance against Parysian.

Yves Edwards vs. Josh Thompson

Now this was a real good fight. I thought it would go to a decision, but Thompson tried throwin a spinnin backhand and at the same time Edwards through a kick that just about ripped Thompson's head off. Great fight!

So, overall this was one of the best events I've seen in a while. I was really happy that they showed all the fights. Most of the time that doesn't happen due to time. Not only did they show all the fights, but only 1 ended in submissin and 1 ended in decision. The rest were knockouts. Anyway, I'm back in this bitch and hopefully I will continue to update this thread.

Did anybody else see this? Thoughts?
