I kinda feel like everyone is using the wrong measuring stick when trying to decide wether the bay blew up or now. I do agree that the region could be more popular, and the reason FLA passed us up is simple, they stick together, we don't . It is the same cast of characters in every Florida niggaz video, wether its the newest nigga or a vet. All of them are in the same videos. They all cosign each other.

As for soundscan and record sales to measure the success of an artist, that shit is on the way out. That is why you cant hate on YaBoy, he is doing shows off the music he puts out on the internet. What's more is that he connects with the fans on the internet, so the nigga has real Fans. Like real deal rock band fans, his fans are gonna be with him like thizz has its on fans. And those fans are world wide. I think that FAB is working on that same business model, which is why he pointed out how he is getting money without the "buzz". By the way, what determines buzz these days? MTV1 is not in the music video biz anymore. (in fact mtv.com just did a 3-part article on the death of the recording industry) All our artists are on MTV jams. Is it just radio?

I think that established artists like 40 and Short can stick with the traditional record industry business model, for now. All the new artists need to get a new one, based upon establishing real fans and generating revenue in new ways. The most important company in 2008 is one that 707 mentioned in his post LIVE NATION. Madonna just left her label of 25 years to sign a 360 deal with them. If you look at the details of what here deal includes, you will see that any local label could do the same thing, on a smaller scale. If she succeeds, a revolution will becoming...

so after looking it up.. why the fuck would anyone sign a 360 deal.. it just give the label more money.

"it's a new version of a recording deal.

the old version was set up for the label and management to get money/percentage from album sales.

a 360 degree deal means that the label and management get money not only from album sales, but also from concert ticket sales and merchandise sales.

touring and merch are traditionally the big money makers for artists. album sales usually make very little for most bands."

There would have never been a buzz on the bay area if it was not for 40. Ask your self who brought mtv my block, BET hype on hyphy, Pepsi smash, and all the media outlets to the bay?? To say that the rest of the country is not feeling 40 let me give you a run down on the soundscans album is at 519,700units. There are tons of cities where over a thousand copies were sold in the east coast and the south. In the last 18 MONTHS these are the cities we've done PAID concerts at NEW YORK CITY 2X, BOSTON 2X, MIAMI, ORLANDO 2X, INDIANPOLIS,FT WAYNE, HAWAII, ANCHORAGE, MEMPHIS,OMAHA, ATLANTA 2X, HOUSTON 2X, TULSA, KANSAS CITY,TAMPA, WICHITA, DENVER 4X, CLEAVLAND 2X, RALEIGH, WASHINGTON DC, NORFOLK,CHICAGO, PHILLY, DETROIT 3X, MINNIEAPOLIS 2X, MILWAUKEE, EL PASO,ALBURQU CHAROLETTE, GREENVILLE SC, JAPAN, WINDSOR CANADA, BOISE 2X, SALT LAKE CITY 2X, MEXICO 3X, VANCOUVER CANADA, and I did not even get into the west coast dates in cali, oregon, washington, arizona, and nevada. 40 been doing shows in all those cities before the last album came out as well. You cant say that other regions dont fuck with 40 like that. 40 has 4 gold records and a platinum record. 40 SOLD more records in seattle alone then anybody did from the bay in 2007 worldwide indie or on a major.Further more he sold more records in the state of Michigan alone then any other bay release in 07. On my daughter, god, and everything I love there is a offer on the table right now for a 45 city world tour with only 8 of those dates on the west coast. When I say world im talking 6 cities in Europe, 5 in Canada, and 34 us dates. If people did not fuck with him outside the west then house of blues, AEG LIVE, AND LIVE NATION concert promoters would not invest there money into it.
The worlds favorite south rappers grew up on 40 Nitti,TI,LUDA,RICK ROSS, NELLY,GUCCI MANE,YOUNG JOC,JEEZY, AND GOODIE MOB. Just think when 40 was at his peak what did JIVE records do? They gave up on rap music and there urban department. 40 did not stop making great albums JIVE stoped being a great RAP record label. Rep your city was a nation wide hit song and jive fell a sleep on it. Before ghetto report card nobody in the industry at all gave a fuck about the bay anymore.
The truth is at the end of the day after 40 came out nobody followed with a HIT song period. The real question is with so many rappers in the bay why cant any1 else make a nationwide hit song? The blame is on everybody u cant just point the finger at clyde and fab there the ones who went and got deals. This time around people will be smart and piggy back off 40 new album coming out in 08 when he does it all again. The Ball street journal is going to do it again. The album is a fuckin problem with tremendous blaps on that bitch. you aint never heard a street fixture call him a sucka or a major rapper have problems with dude cuz hes well resprected in both communities. The only people agansit him in the yay are a few rappers and there friends! As a westcoast artist with no help from dr dre {eazye, ice cube, snoop, xzibit, game, tupac, dog pound} 40 has a lot of acomplishments and theres no way you can erase his history in the game. What would the bay be with without water? think about it.
homeboy u aint neva lied!

40 would have never got that "second wind pimp" if it wern't for the youngsta's and the energy and visual that came along with the hype on Hyphy. 40 was honestly on his way out before he got on BLUE JEANS N NIKES, HYPHY, SUPER SICK WID IT and then he rode that formula all the way back to the top. I think he was smart for doing so because the country wasn't curious about 40 they were curious about this new thing that they had heard about called Hyphy. 40 being the only big name fixed in the Bay he recieved all of the spoils of it and now he is the last man standing in the hyphy era. Fab will NEVER come out on Atlantic. Clyde might come out, but if the Bay isn't poppin I don't think Capitol is going to give him the proper backing to become a household name. Keak is well...Keak and most people won't understand ANYTHING he is saying. The Bay is in a odd place stuck in Hyphy and trying to milk it for one more sipp, but the Bay also knows it needs to move on and focus on the TALENTED and not the GIMMICK GUYS.
yer a loser, 40 neva fell off.

See the problem with EVERY bay area artist is that they think they Chicken Shit bank account means something. They makin crumbs and aint even making more money than the biggest dope dealers thats from the blocks they from. They compare they bank accounts to a nigga thats makin like 12 dollars a hour at a regular 9 to 5 and they are content with that.Thats why the bay will never be a big region again as far as its rap representatives. It aint nobody in the bay with the mindstate of a 50 cent or a T.I or a Luda or a Jay-Z or a Master P that is lookin at the Big Picture and not just settling for the local crumbs.Bay niggas get they little show money and a punk ass advance from a small time distribution company and think they on top of the world. With the amount of Exposure Fab has had in his career he could be capitolizing on it alot better.Dude been in major magazines,Mtv,Fox news and some mo shit yet his buzz is at a stand still. He probably has lost more fans in the last year than he have gained by gettin ethered by royce when he shoulda tried to CAPITOLIZE off of beating him in that 1st battle. He is no longer really relevant in the Bay as far as ppl anticipating his music.Dude had hits on the radio and now he has nothin. His last album came and went.In order for the bay to come back somebody has to start a potent MOVEMENT.Which nobody besides Mac Dre has been smart enough to do in the last 10 years.People support movements over individual artists.Faeva Afta Bread is not a movement its just a tiny imprint.I still care about Bay music and it would be coo 2 go outta town and hear my region being played and repped right on the radio but the problem is rappers dont Capitolize off the opportunitys they get. They just settle for they little benz and they new found pussy they gettin. If 50 did that he would still be a nigga strugglin after gettin shot and dropped by sony. The nigga started a movement before the shady deal. But that is my anecdote to why the bay will continue to fail.Thizz i think woulda been the label that coulda brung the bay back but Dre passed away and the niggas thats runnin it is only after a quick buck.
what was his movement? dying? half the fags on here didnt even listen 2 dre b4 he died & he didnt sell shit b4 he died. plus 40 still outsells him so yer a stupid dummy.

Exactly right. So why sign with a label? Madonna signed with a concert promoter. Its all about branding now. People think the future is about the music, its not. Its about your brand. That is why we spend so much time on here talking about what else a rapper has going on besides music. People are interested in that rapper as a brand. In my opinion its a mistake for any new artists to sign with a major label unless its a 360 that would include movies, concerts, etc. If you don't do that, you are better off using the team that you currently have to establish your brand, one market at at time. Or use the internet and make the world your one market.

yall have what is called the "tupac blues".

mac dre died and so did youre morale.

you tried.

so did southern cali.

give it a half a decade, itll come around again.

at the end of the day, there was nothing cool about little white kids in oversized glasses walking amongst their cars at the neighborhood mall.

everyone just went on and partied with the dead guy and forgot about where he was from. so the bay did kinda blow up, but the person who did it aint alive.

I found a great article. It's about the current state of the industry and the different routes artists can take and still be successful. What it seems local artists aren't realizing is that self-distribution can work, especially if you focus on the digital, because the cost of manufacturing and distribution disappears. CD's, tapes, and now computers are just containers. Sell the experience, cause you can no longer control how the music gets delivered.

I think you can only do it with the label's permission. I think the reason Mistah F.A.B. was able to do it is cuz he's not signed to Atlantic as solo artist but some other kind of deal. I could be wrong.
I believe it is a distribution deal, meaning that Atlantic will distribute his record through their supply chain. What they have to do with production and promotion I have no idea. I know FAB reads this shit, I don't get why he just sets the record straight. I don't think he blew it either, he has a projected release schedule and it getting shit done. Hopefully we'll have a single within the next few months.
