I don't believe so ... I think it depends if your salary or not. I'm paid Salary and they make it mandatory for us if it starts to get too busy and we need to catch up.

An employer can make the working of overtime hours as a condition of employment. Since an employer can make the working of overtime mandatory, the employer can terminate an employee if the employee refuses to work overtime regardless of how many hours the employee has already worked that day or workweek.

It SHOULD be illegal.

Yea, the shit should be illegal, especially if you're on a salary. If you get paid hourly, then you see the overtime in your check. If you are on a salary, you get paid the same no matter what, so overtime is basically free labor for the employer. It's all boo boo. I wish my job had fuckin overtime, they don't let us work it. If we want overtime, we have to go through HR and get an approval and it takes like 2 weeks, and that's only Overtime for ONE DAY!! Not to mention, you have to have a good fuckin reason for them to grant permission to work overtime, and I don't think "I'm hungry" is a good reason for them.

Was that voluntary OT or did the employer make you work OT that week? Sounds like the employer got over on you.

Musty, I've been stuck @ 20 hours a week for the past 2 years. Only reason I haven't left is because my hourly is enough to get by on part time, and I have top notch benefits.

BUT, if anybody knows somebody looking for a person to work full time for anywhere between $15-$20 per hour, holla at me. I'll take anything I can get and live off of for a while, I'm on fuckin short right now.

It is illegal not to pay overtime unless you are in a managerial position. that is a fact. it's more than 8 hours in one day or more than 40 hours in one week.

yeah, managers got shanked with the OT laws just passed. Even law enforcement supervisors don't get OT anymore if they are not on the street patrolling.

i mean, its never voluntary...it was like some days i'd have normal 8 hour days, and other days my boss would say "can u stay two more hours" and because i want to be on good terms, i would, u know? so basically they got over on me.

Been a member of the UFCW Local 588 & 1288 for about 4 years now. I'm not really worried about overtime issues. Too many jobs & businesses are non-union, it's sad really.

What ever happened to Bush passing that Bill that made businesses not have to pay overtime? Was the true? I think 2-0-Sixx posted something about it in the GOM forum.

in the wording of that bill it even said if u wanna save money on OT cut the workers regular wage and work em all u want.
a government bill that tells business how to sock it to the workers.
