Often times depression is a direct result of mental problems and chemical imbalances, amongst other things, which can lead to suicide.

The article stated that he had a "long battle with depression" so he could have been on medication and/or receiving therapy for help. With all of the recent reports of certain anti-depression medication actually causing suicide (such as Prozac (Fluoxetine), Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Effexor,, Serzone, Remeron, etc.), you cannot rule that possibility out either without further information. You never know, he could have started taking new medication or had a recent change in dosage, both have been documented to cause suicidal thoughts in some patients, so there is no need to jump to conclusions.

True but I think the overall value of antidepressants outweighs the fact that they may cause suicidal thoughts in some patients. Depression itself can also be potentially deadly or extremely debilitating.

I agree, hope I didn't come off like Tom Cruise. But I'm just trying to point out there are many factors that could have lead to suicide and theres no need to jump to conclusions

As i agree depression is a selfish act, i do believe in free will. If someone feels they would be better off dead, why stop them? You are NOT that person and you do NOT know what they are going through.

I agree with 2-0-Sixx in that I think people get depression and BEING depressed confused. Being depressed is a STATE of emotion, feeling sad. Depression is a DISEASE, a chemical imbalance in the brain that cuases one to feel "down" abnoromally for long periods of time, and oftne times ALL the time. My mother suffers depression and has been battling it for over 35 years.
