It is all a matter of opinion. Ultimately the responsibility falls on the parents to let their kid know what is entertainment and what is not. I am not anti-rap per se, I am just anti anything giving the youth the wrong perception of a destructive lifestyle. But once again that falls on the parents.

But that made me who I am so who am I to say it is wrong or right in the end....

I do not understand what you don't get? It isn't his music that people are knocking. It is the fact he lies about his past. I will be in the minority and I don't give a fuck. I can't stand when fake motherfuckers rap in their songs like they been through some shit knowing damn well that isn't the case. I get the entertainment part fully. But what message does that send to the kids, hence, all the fake ass shit going on the streets nowadays. You industry type groupies need to get a clue. This shit is so much bigger and a big reason I don't support many rap albums nowadays. The game and the people in it are funnystyle for the most part, not all though.
Bro all this rap shit is entertainment. What makes you think your favorite rapper or rappers are what they rap about. Rick ross got busted out and denied it. Why? He wanted to stay in character. If the nigga did admit it he still woulda got a backlash for being a co rappin about being a drug kingpin. He was fucked from the gate no matter how he responded imo. But at the end of the day rap is like wrestling. And what do u mean what message it send to the kids? What about rap/r&b songs promoting pre marital sex, murder, drug dealing, gangs, etc. U think those messages are better than a fake fat drug kingpin rapper who used to be a co and lies? Cmon fam.
