December 07, 2007. MediaTakeOut.com has just learned that execs over at Def Jam have decided not to extend an offer to Jay Z to continue on as head of the label. Details are still sketchy, but word is that they've already beginning to look for a successor - and so far Jermaine Dupri is the leading candidate.

We're told to expect an announcement in the next day or so.

This article was originally published at 9:00 AM EST. At the time of publishing, no other news source in the world was reporting that Jay Z was no longer returning to Def Jam. Copies of this article were sent to all the major news agencies (including CNN, The Associated Press, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, People and TMZ.com). In the past, a number of news organizations have re-reported MediaTakeOut.com's articles without giving proper credit. We ask that if you use the information provided in this news article, that you give credit to MediaTakeOut.com, the world's most visited Black website. Not only is that standard practice in good journalism, but it's the right thing to do. In addition, hundreds of journalists come onto this site to find out what's going on in the Black community - so your theft is not going unnoticed. Blatantly re-report our stories not only damages your reputation as a journalist - but that of your employer.

BTW, for that, let me say FUCK YOU to mediatakeout.com.

hahahaha, like jermaine dupri is a better candidate. they need some old white guy in charge!!!!!!!!!
I would think he's a better candidate than Jay-Z tho, I mean he did run so so def (well, he ran it into the ground, but still) and he doesn't have his own personal rap interests in mind

they probably make it out like he's FIRED but he probably either doesn't want the position anymore or whatever else. jermaine got that job head of what again, arista or whatever else big label and he got let go after a year didn't he. so yeah that's why i made that comment. i honestly thouhgt jay-z was just the figure head of the label and never really did any executive work like most labels out there who have a rapper incharge of labels.

I honestly dont think Jay Z or JD or any other artists/producer is the right person for the job. Granted those people have been very successful at doing what they do, and or course had some success and running their own ship. I honestly think it take more of a business mind than an artists mind to run a company, no matter what the industry is. Just cause MJ was the greatest basketball player ever, and did some good things business wise with his own brand, doesnt mean he knows how to run a basketball team (please see Washington Wizards, and the horrible decisions made there, ie Kwame Brown). Of course the Roc was successful, but it was successful based on Jay'z own work, and the talent he had for his own music. That doesn't equal him being successful at coming into a company, and running it, making the appropriate business decisions. I don't know, thats my take. Doug Morris, and Lyor Cohen, and Edgar Bronfman etc., are where they are at today, and still there, because they seperate business from music, and they are great business men.......Thats my .02 cents.

^really? what did he do? was there specific things or just noone likes his ass cuz he don't know how to act?
its explained in beef 4
but pretty much dame likes things done his way and he doesn't like to be fucked over. so if he has to insult you, degrade you, to get what he wants, then he will do it. when him and jay split, jay turned the industry against dame, because dame didnt' wanna hand over the masters to reasonable doubt. now dame just has pro-keds, as far as i know. he had DMG (dame music group), but that got shut down. all artists had a choice to be with him or dame, most chose jay-z. i think only 2-3 artists stayed with dame, one of them was nicole wray. but yeah man, peep beef 4. and it explains it all. jay did the nigga dirty lol but hey, thats business. business over friends i guess.

Bad move as well. Get somebody that GIVES A FUCK ABOUT HIP HOP. These execs sighn just about anybody. They don't know shit about good lyrics, beat making, decent vocals etc. All they give a fuck about is what's hot right now, following trends & image. Cats that run indie labels sighn better acts cuz they are ACTUALLY in the studio & in the mix of things but the only problem with that is that they usually sighn just regional actz most of the time & too many of their homies.

Now as far as Jay-Z gettin fired.... SO WHAT. He gots plenty of money to do other shit & Def Jam been tras. I aint bought a Def Jam albu since 1994. Fuck'em.

i disagree. when lyor was runnin def jam, they had a very good run.
i don't know if you read the latest issue of scratch, but they get a&r's reactions to new records comin out. they all said most were trash. so i am thinkin to myself if you cats think its trash, then why are you gonna turn around and sign em? and it ain't the money aspect because these niggas ain't makin money. just off ringtones, but thats it.
