Ok, you win. You are obviously much more educated on religion than me, but what about the part of the Bible that says people used to live to over 500 years old? I did read that somewhere, a friend of mine was taking religion in school. I know it's near the beginning LMAO
It's not about winning or losing bro.
It's about educating....

Yes the bible says that people once lived over 900 years (not 500 years).... It's only a matter of time that science proves this....
Genetic science shows that our genes have mutated over the years. We're no longer a perfect species. But we once were....
You know there's an aging gene in us right? There's a gene that shuts us down, what if this gene mutated over the years and it's gotten to the point where it kills us sooner then it used to before?
You gotta look at it this way, and with life you never know.
So one must keep at open mind because we are an ignorant species. Meaning that we know so little about life and where we came from. We only know what we have learned thus far, so lets not jump ahead of ourselves....

religion was created by man to give people hope in thier time of need and despair
Exactly exactly exactly... 211's Wife that was a good post overall.

"Religion is a crutch for those who are too weak to face life alone." - Friedrich Nietzsche

The 'holy men' who created the bible... wrote it by hand while tripping... were no bigger men than you miggidy. You are just as theoretically 'powerful' as any other human ever born. You dont need to follow what some other fools said about how the universe came about. Science has proved TONS, Religion has proved Zero... nothing... (And not everything will ever be proved by any form of knowledge... ever).

Although I mostly base my attack on western religions. They are the ones that hold the masses together in hope of something more. Eastern religions are much more solid in the fact that they do not try and control one's thoughts or tell one how to think. They are about peace of mind and tranquility, and, oh yeah, the preachers of them dont molest little boys ;)

But I forgot to mention, I definitely agree with your earlier comment of "the masses need holding together". This is definitely true. I'm just glad Im on a different and more 'free thinking' page than the 'masses'. No sheepism, ever.

Im glad your side of the argument is knowledgeable and thought out, instead of spouting personal attacks like I was expecting on a message board. props.

What I say to that is those who succeed, succeed because of their faith. It is those with no faith who are weak.
For instance, a faithful person can live happy life no matter how poor or painful his life is. People with faith do not fear death and so on....

Point I'm tryin to make is you cannot live a good life with out faith as Mr. Nietzsche was implying. You might live a happy life full of material things, but what have you done for the next man?

I understand that, Jesus even told his desciples that no man is greater than the other in heaven. So it's the same here on Earth.
But what I'm sayin is that if these people were actually bullshitting or on some shit, why were their prophecies 100% accurate? There's something abnormal there at the very least.
Jesus disciples would've never died for a liar.
They were torchered into saying that Jesus was full of shit but they didn't budge. They died for believing in Jesus as their savior, they must have known something that we don't.
A normal person would lie just to avoid death, but they didn't.
Could it be that they knew were they were going? That the pain was only temporary?

The Eastern religions are very liberal. That's why everyone in Hollywood and their mama's converting to Budhism.
People are like water, they will always take the path of least resistance.

As for the sick priests who molest boys, they never had true faith to begin with.... It would be hypocritical to live a lifestyle that you preach against....

Someone else made that comment but I agree never the less.
People are very selfish, by nature. So they must be taught to go against that nature. The world is this bad as it is, it can only be worse without the leash.
Just remember, read the New Testiment. Jesus clearly mentions that one is to accept him by love and not because you have to.
In other words you cannot accept him out of fear of going to hell.
You cannot force someone to love you, that person has to open up to you. It's what free will is all about. Jesus doesn't force anyone, the path is in front of you, you are a free sheep, it's just up to you whether you wanna go to where your herder's at.

I have very little faith in most things (especially religion). But I consider my life to be very good and happy for the most part. I dont trip about other people's lives - therefore I dont even want to do anything 'for the next man', besides my future [possible] children and my family... and my good friends. I've been living in a state for a while now where I don't care what other people's deals are, or what direction this planet is going in. I can't do anything as an individual to help change this place - so I just ignore it.

I guess in the end, we were just born with different brains, beliefs, upbringings. Yours feels some sort of awe-power of God and/or religion inside, and mine tries to take the most common-sense route and deals with the fact that we aren't shit. Afterlife is nothingness...

Maybe deep down I do wish I was going to go to 'heaven'. But then again, that would be too easy. Life is much funner than eternal bliss and whatever. Thats the easy way out... I think I'd rather be re-incarnated than go to a place where im going to stay for eternity. I mean, is there 'change' in heaven? hehe

That's why this world is so fucked up.
No one cares about the next man.
Making the world a better place requires everyone to put their 2 cents into the mix.
I'm not singling you out, everyone shares that mentality,
it's with us from birth.
But we should all recognize the problem in order to figure out the solution. Then it boils down to who decides to go on with their lives and those who try to make a change.

Are brain is so complex, everything about the world is so complex, down to each cell in a leaf to all the other planets. The bible helps people a lot, but many people don't believe it since some of it was based on peoples dreams and things like that. Seeing a child being born in person was a real eye opener for me and believing in something higher. Some of us are just animals, this will never change. I don't really understand how people can think we were a mistake, or a little speck of cells, were did these cells come from?. Geroge Carlin says that religion has brainwashed people into thinking there is some magical man in the sky watching everything all the time, and sends people that are not "good" to a evil place to burn for eternity. I dont think there is some magical man in the sky but I can't look at the world without thinking there is something more to it, shit happends but without shit happening we would have no clue about what something good was, I think thats why life sucks sometimes, so when something good happends we can appreciate it that much more. People say the higher power doesnt exist because of all the terrible shit that happends on earth, and why wouldnt the higher power end this, imo it is all up to us as a race to seperate ourselves from the animals, having compassion and understanding. reading a psychology book made me realize just how complex are brains are and how they work, I am amazed almost all day everyday at the world and people, this works against me sometimes because I think "what the fuck is life all about" all the time, and not knowing brings both fear and hope in me at the same time. I truly hope that when I die its not just zapp, all over, maggot food, so all I can do is hope there is another place, better or worse, i will want to go, anthings better than the thought that we are just dust. Such an abrupt end to something so complex..that kind of thinking would make me feel like shit and have no hope for the future. I dont have GOD in my life so to speak but my wonder of life will never die, which helps me get through each day. Its not stupid to speculate if GOD exists but debating is pointless, nobody knows excect those who have passed. I never wake up wishing i would have died in my sleep, I wake up in a shitty as mood pretty much everyday but in my eyes thats were motivation comes from, like saying FUCK THE WORLD in a good way...

Miggidy I have a question for you then, and let me re-phrase my 'not caring' attitude in a different way.

I'm a very nice guy to anyone I meet right off the bat. I'll be friendly and helpful (helpful if im working, that is) instantly. I've almost never fucked with anyone elses life, and the only way I even will mess with someone elses path in life is if they mess with mine. Which rarely happens (but revenge and vengeance has gone on just a couple times... and no one wants to be on my angry-violent-bad side, hehe).
I'm probably one of the most 'helpful' of my friends when it comes to your statement, 'helping out the next man'. Man, I do favors for people every freaking day, in so many aspects, just because i'm competent at what I set my mind to. Not trying to brag or anything, but if there were 6 billion of me on this Earth, it would be an extremely, extremely peaceful place. Granted it wouldnt be as productive Political wise - I fucking hate politics - but when someone tells me that I'm not a 'help' to those individuals around me, they are just plain wrong.

I know the internet masks what people are really like, but I can guarantee you, despite the hate-buildup for the human race and closed minded people inside of me, I'm not contributing to the downfall of our society in any way. Definitely helping it.

note: BTW i know there are tons here like me, and tons here that are like what you stated. I was just defending myself, as i usually feel the need to :)

I feel you Nostril King, some good points there, especially about people at clubs (and parties in general) being fucking assholes. The whole world is fucked up and is slowly getting worse (faster and faster each day though). I really dont see our planet surviving all that much longer, and frankly, I dont mind.

I dont usually think about all that shit anymore though. Do what I do these days and shut yourself off to the world (except your family and friends), smoke some bud, lay back and say Fuck Everyone...

And Lou... come on now, dont enforce religious beliefs... That fool 'God' has never done anything for me... Organized religion is a made-up artificial tool to control the masses. I was born a Christian but Fuck that, I aint gonna listen to anyone but myself, and form my own opinions. God was dead long ago to me.
Shit, I feel you 100 %. That's real.

I aint readin everyones posts but here is my take on the issue cause oddly enough I was askin myself the same thing a few days ago(not suicidal thoughts, just the meaning of life type shit).

i figure that the belief in god is the only thing keeping many of us alive. (probably all of us) even if you dont believe in god, it is the "what if?" that keeps u alive. cause if there were nothing after this life, what is the point?

life seems so repetitive and meaningless when you think about it. even your best days kind of seem pointless too. now dont get me wrong, as shitty as it, I love life and I cant wait for the day I have a get married, have a child, watch them grow, but beyond that, what do we really have to look forward to?
