AN UNDERCOVER FASCIST COUNTRY? CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE FOR HOW THIS GOVT IS LIKE THAT? IF SO, DOES THAT MEAN THAT BASICALLY THIS GOV'T IS PRETTY MUCH GIVE OR TAKE, SIMILAR TO HOW ITALY WAS(WHICH WAS A FASCIST COUNTRY) BACK IN WW2 THEN WITH MUSSOLINI? AND WHAT IDEAS DOES THIS GOVT HAVE THAT IS SIMILAR TO WAYS OF HITLER HIMSELF? BOTH HITLER AND MUSSOLINI PRETTY MUCH EXTERMINATED POLITICAL RIVALS OF THEIR REGIMES, BUT OVER HERE, NAW I DONT THINK I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE LIKE CINDY SHEEHAN, OR THE HOLLYWOOD LEFT BEING SENT TO PRISON OR BEING EXECUTED FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAINST OUR GOVT, HAVE YOU? IF SO, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, CAUSE I CERTAINLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS GOVT IS WHAT YOU REALLY SAY IT IS...PUT IT THIS WAY, BUSH IS GONE IN 2008 THANKS TOO OUR CONSTITUTIONS RULE THAT PRESIDENTS CAN ONLY SERVE 2 TERMS. BUT BOY IF THIS WAS A "UNDERCOVER FASCIST" COUNTRY THEN I THINK WE WOULDNT HAVE A CHOICE TO GET ANOTHER PRESIDENT, WOULD WE? AND GLOBAL DOMINATION, WELL LETS SEE, THIS COUNTRY IS PRETTY MUCH THE NUMBER ONE IN ANYTHING, ECONOMY WISE, MILITARY WISE, ETC., SO WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OUR GOVT TO DO WHEN IT COMES TO CONFLICT IN THE MIDDLE EAST, N KOREA, ETC? JUST STAND BY AND LET THEM GO AT IT? YEAH THATS AN OPTION BUT WE CANT DO THAT. WHETER WE LIKE IT OR NOT OUR COUNTRY IS LOOKED AT AS THE SUPERPOWER OF THE WORLD. WE HAVE TO PICK A SIDE ON ISSUES, HELL ALL THESE GOVTS TALK SHIT ABOUT US BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO EARTHQUAKES, FLOODS WARS,OR WHATEVER WHO DO THEY CALL? US, OUR COUNTRY. WHY? BECAUSE AGAIN, WE'RE THE SOLE SUPERPOWER. SO REALLY ITS ONLY A RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS GOVT TO HELP OUT OTHERS IN AID, FINANCIALLY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. NOW IF THERE WERE DISASTERS IN ISRAEL, MUSLIM COUNTRIES LIKE INDONESIA, OR EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, DO YOU THINK THIS WOULD COUNTRY WOULD HELP? IM PRETTY SURE WE WOULD. AND HOW DO I KNOW? IM STATIONED IN OKINAWA JAPAN IN THE MARINE CORPS, MY UNIT GETS CALLED UP PRETTY MUCH ANYWHERE WHERE A DISASTER HAPPENS. NOW IF THIS COUNTRY WAS A UNDERCOVER FASCIST GOVT, THEN I PRETTY MUCH COULD SAY THAT IT WOULDNT GIVE A DAMN TO HELP OUT THE JEWS OR THE MUSLIMS OR ANYONE AROUND THE WORLD. Making Protest Painful: Detained RNC Protesters Held in Crowded, Oil-Contaminated Conditions::
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/02/1455227
Hundreds of detained protesters remain in a holding facility in New York despite a judge's order to release them. We speak with one of those freed: Matt Daloisio, a member of the New York Catholic Worker who was arrested at a protest at Ground Zero. [includes rush transcript]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Protests against the Republican convention continued yesterday throughout New York City. The police arrested 19 people in separate incidents, bringing the total of those detained so far during seven days of relentless convention-related protests to more than 1,760 - a record for a political convention.
Hundreds of people protested the conditions under which those arrested are being held before going to court saying the site was contaminated with oil and asbestos. Pier 57 is a three-story, block-long pier that has been converted to a holding pen.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has denied the city was operating what some called "Guantanamo-on-the-Hudson." And defended the use of the of the pier garage saying "It's not supposed to be Club Med."

Last night, a judge ordered protesters who had been held for 24-hours released with desk appearance tickets if they were not charged with serious crimes. Before midnight, some protesters started emerging from 100 Centre St. around the block from our firehouse studio. Some 200 supporters greeted them with cheers and offered food and medical treatment. Despite the judge's orders, a large number of protesters remain imprisoned.

“I want the world to see the real picture of the Iranian people. We are not terrorists...It is very important for Americans to realize the huge difference that exists between the people of Iran and their government,” said Fakhraver.

Fakhraver recently escaped from Iran, where he had been in and out of prison for the past several years. His crime? Calling on the people of Iran to reject the country's radical regime.

A former medical student and journalist, he's now in the U.S. He told CBN News about the brutal treatment he and other Iranian political prisoners endured.

“The first thing they do to the prisoners is they break them down. So before they ask them any questions, before anything, they break them down with white torture. That's the first step,” said Fakhraver.

“He [Fakhraver] survived one of the worst forms of torture called "white torture," which is a terrible psychological torture in which you're locked in a very small cell and then you do not hear anything, and everything you see is white. Everything from the food you eat, to the plates it's served on, to the walls, ceiling, floor--everything is white. So you're deprived of all sensual stimulation,” explained The American Enterprise Institute's Michael Ledeen, an expert on Iran.

Fakhraver made it through this psychological torment. But he says it broke other political prisoners.

“Most of those who are subjected to this kind of treatment developed psychological illness,” Fakhraver said. “Even myself, after I was released from prison I had to go live in a forest away from society for many months, so I could regain my sense of myself and society.”

OUR GOVT AINT NOWHERE NEAR PERFECT NOR IS ANY OTHER COUNTRY....PEOPLE GET ARRESTED FOR STUPID SHIT AND IT AINT EVEN THEIR FAULT...YOU KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN? As long as we the people are too lazy to actually learn and understand about our country and how it works, expect this shit to happen. People want to blame the president for everything, always blaming somebody but not doing anything. The democrats who were against the war from the beginning, still voted to give the president power to go to war with Iraq, without congress approval, if Iraq didn't agree to full inspections, or something along those lines. Shouldn't the constinuents of these democrats be angry and vote them out of office next election season? The people hear start to cry when things become all corrupt and wrong, and our rights are being taken away, but what were they doing to prevent it before it happened?

We're a materialistic society spending feria on rims, 3 grand pain jobs, plasma screen tvs, dvds, designer clothing, bullshit we don't need, but we can't find time to get involved with our political system and try to make a change, or keep things the way their supposed to be (like our freedoms).

We got no one to blame but ourselves. We put these people in a position of power. And we don't live in a complete democracy, it's either a republic or a different off shoot of democracy. If we lived in a democracy, majority rules, and this country is about protecting the minority as well.

oh yea and this is a weak example of a corrupt government. if it's a federal crime to make threats against the president, and it's not something new, then I don't see the big deal. Did she even get detained over night? From what I remember reading, she was questioned for 15 or 30 minutes. correct me if im wrong. but if thats what happened doesn't sound like a big deal.
