I think the term "New Bay" was better for the Bay than "HYPHY movement"

the "new bay" isn't dead, Hyphy is part of "the new bay"....just because people aren't shouting it all over songs anymore doesn't mean the concept isn't still alive.

yeah but you aint gonna see more than the hyphy sound represented on the radio or mtv so the new Bay shit is pretty much dead.

the bottom line. if hyphy brings money to the bay then so be it. companies like MTV are only interested in what can be easily labled and sold to the mass public. A lot of shit out here can't. But then again, isn't that how it is in every city/state. You have the soundscan killers with that pop chart sound, then 10 times as many emcees bossing hard in their repsective cities. Only difference is, when you have national attention from a "movement", then those other artist can get heard and played. Regardless of what its called, hyphy is good for the bay. if 40's shit keeps selling and getting play, then people are going to start looking over here real hard. pop music will always get top billing, that's what the mainstream is all about. but without it, then cats in the bay stay local and never blow. it's bigger than the movement name. its about money, and the OG's know that.

the artist is responsible for his own growth. but expression needs opportunity to flourish. if the money comes, that gives local record companies a chance to get money for themselves and promote their artist. what we need out here is a record company or two that have the benefits of being under a major label. like bad boy to arista. then that local record company can promote what they want to promote, giving other bay area artist a chance to blow with the help of major distribution and promotion. its all math. like atlanta, lil' john is the king of crunk, but what about ludacris?? he's not crunk, but still has national fame. same with whats going on in texas, you have that movement then there is Scarface. regardless of whether people are feeling hyphy or not, we all need to support it as a business decision.

The New Bay from reading The Frontline and Balance post and interviews were for all new sounds and styles to have a place in a new era of Bay Area artist. I remember that New Bay song and it had The Frontline, Balance, The Team and Mista F.A.B...Call it what you want, but those are the main hot new artist out of the Bay. Take them add in Bailey, Turf Talk, Ya Boy and Big Rich and then you have something that represents a more realistic depiction of the Bay. On the real most people don't like Hyphee, but they have Bay pride. The OG'z don't really do the Hyphee thing 40 DOES THE HYPHEE THING. The artist named are a diverse bunch and like Al Boo Boo said it leaves room for any artist with hot music to come in and make it happen.

I think anything other than the new bay would be best, for a good reason. Keak, 40, Ea ski, san quin, and messy marv aint new. And the REAL FOUNDER of the whole get stupid go dumb MAC DRE, was'nt new. I think calling it new is kind of an insult. The rappers who i named are the ones thats really holdin it down right now.

I feel u, but these are the artist that make the sound that we go dumb too. If they aint callin it new, then who is frontline to give it a name. They aint really in a leadership position to be naming a movement.

i feel you though. i bascially liked the term new bay but you have to remember about what balance and the frontline where trying to accompl;ish with that. the hyphy movement was only a part of whats going out there but not everyone is hyphy ex. san quinn, ya boy,

That's my point most people in the Bay (remember the Bay is a big place) arn't Hyphee.I see it like this...

Hyphee style of music is much easier to make than what the whole New Bay thing was trying to acomplish. Hyphee has a formula.
One 808+One clap+a synth run+a hook that says hyphee, dumb, purple...=Hyphee song.

man they started to say new bay like they wanted to deviate from what the bay was. mobb shit and gutta shit. U gotta pay respects to the OG's in every game cuz then ur movement holds no credibility. The New bay movement had nothing "new" about it, the hyphy movement has everything going for it, and followers too. I dont remember any new bay followers, i mean what the fuck does it mean to be part of the "new" bay? WHo the fuck told me we were getting a new bay?

like I been tryin to make clear in my other posts, its not really THAT "new Bay" saying but having a term that wouldnt pidgeon hold our whole region into one sound like "hyphy movement" and imo the simplest sound coming from here. Some folks do it better than most but now not everybody puttin in that much effort, just a kick clap hi-hats and a "hyphy" hook.AND not everybody out here is on that shit, musically so when majors come callin they gon either have to do whats gettin play on the radio even if its against what they wanna make OR get ran over by the hyphy train. That aint reppin the Bay,we too diverse to let one movement rep us all.At least musically.

hyphy movement is so dumb honestly... its about the music i mean yes sideshows and our different way of daning and more importanly are slanguistics is what the bay is but cmon its more about the music that came before not this trend... you can call it new bay hyphy movement or what not but real bay music was in the past when there was pac old school 40 with shit like sprinkle and mr el presidente MAC DRE and dubee
