Production is different than a feature though because a producer's name is not going to sell an album any more unless it is Neptunes or Dr. Dre.
I strongly disagree with this statement. There are alot of producers who's names bring credibility to a project. I'm talking real producers with resume's.
The music is the foundation for your whole album and it's the first thing that's gonna get someone to listen - not what somebody's rapping.
Rappers are a nickel for two-dozen, quality producers are worth every dollar they charge.
As a quick example, I have a partner who could make some quick cash selling beats for $100 and $150 a pop. But he has a track record, a reputation, and a resume. The cheapest I have ever negotiated for his beats was two for $1,500. If someone wants to pay what I think he's worth, they can get some incredible music. If they don't have much and are independent, then we can work something out, but sometimes I've heard "that's too much, so-and-so is selling beats for $150"<---- and that's why their records sound like everything else saturating the game.
