Cats would drop x amount of dollars on verses from rappers I wouldn't even allow on my music. This whole subject is a matter of perspective and what level you're on. It's like J-Bone and B-12 said, a cat is worth what someone is willing to pay him.

A lot of rappers are arrogant so what really suprises me isn't what some of them try to charge for verses, it's how little value they have for the beats. Personally, I think beat makers need to be more choosey about who they let rap on their music but I can't tell any man to turn down a profit.

People see money and forget about the politics. Producers like Rodney Jerkins didn't get to where he is by accepting every offer presented to him. Same with rappers like Jay-Z.

Get your money....just be smart about it.

Production is different than a feature though because a producer's name is not going to sell an album any more unless it is Neptunes or Dr. Dre.

I strongly disagree with this statement. There are alot of producers who's names bring credibility to a project. I'm talking real producers with resume's.

The music is the foundation for your whole album and it's the first thing that's gonna get someone to listen - not what somebody's rapping.

Rappers are a nickel for two-dozen, quality producers are worth every dollar they charge.

As a quick example, I have a partner who could make some quick cash selling beats for $100 and $150 a pop. But he has a track record, a reputation, and a resume. The cheapest I have ever negotiated for his beats was two for $1,500. If someone wants to pay what I think he's worth, they can get some incredible music. If they don't have much and are independent, then we can work something out, but sometimes I've heard "that's too much, so-and-so is selling beats for $150"<---- and that's why their records sound like everything else saturating the game.

If you mean Loki, you're trippin' if you've never heard of him. Do you listen to west coast rap or ONLY the stuff that comes out of the sco? Loki is definitely worth 1g.

And Lynch... lol... 3 g's is a steal. If you got a solid album already, just putting Lynch's NAME on your cd is going to boost sales by at LEAST a couple thousand. People will buy it just for his name. Lynch is better than any of the artists you named btw... besides E-40, Yuk, and maybe Quinn. Lynch is a fuckin' legend just for putting out SOTS and Loaded. He may not come with verses that are as hard as he used to, but like so many people said before this:

You are paying money to put their NAMES on your cd, not necessarily their VERSES. Seeing those names on the CD cover or whatever instantly will hook someone... including me if they got enough tight features.

Dissin Loki.... wtf
^^exactly....i do agree wit you also Out On Bail....Cellski is a way better rapper than lynch but lynch's name is more widespread....if you were tryin ta make album sales in Arizona or Texas for example; having Lynch on it would guarantee many more sales than having Cellski....at least untill mafuccas learn about Cellski.....

 I hear this bullshit all the time and my reply is always the same. "I think you need to be fuckin wit so-and-so..." Too often so-and-so is someone whose music I used to respect(notice the past tense). Rappers got the game twisted thinkin they lyrics is more important than the music. How many times have you found yourself diggin a song where the rapper was talkin about some bullshit, but the beat was bangin like a mufucca???

Sick Wid It - You're speaking a foreign language to these cats man. Artistic integrity isn't exactly something that today's "producers" or "artists" care about.

I've had money thrown in my face on many occasions by "artists" that want me to produce them. Shit, to this day I still get calls and e-mails from these same people that I refused to work with before wanting me to produce them. But if I think you're wack, we can't work. If you start to get on my nerves, I'll give you a CD of some 'B' quality beats knowing you won't like them just so you'll leave me alone. That's me though. Then there have been times where wack artists offered me an exorbitant amount of money for my services. Well ... I aint stupid

Think about all of the beats & verses transactions that go on around these parts (shit, on this board). This is regardless of price. Then think about what percentage of this material actually gets put out. Cats might be better off investing their money in real estate or something. But if you can afford to fuck your money off, do your thang.

i dont even remember typoyping on this post...but anyway, times are heard, get what you can. If you are comfortable enough to pass on ANY Money then more power to you. But lets just say I haven't paid more tha $500 since the mid 90's for a feature. That doesnt mean they aren't worth it but its about what the market will bear.

Peace.

solid thread...I say if you can get it, then get it....if you find ya'self missin out more often than not, then you either askin too much or you just ain't worth your weight in the business. then again a cat like me don't give a damn what you walk away saying after I make it clear I ain't workin with you unless there is some currency being exchanged. I'd rather keep fuckin wit bosses who can help me and I can help them, it's gotta be positives on both sides to work...I've soaked this from so many vets...and live by it.
