I know plenty of people who've gotten DUI's. You don't blow a .13 and not end up with a DUI. You aren't going to lawyer/plea/deal your way out of that one. One of the cats I know started going to AA classes on his own and the judge gave him a real soft sentence for taking responsibility without the court forcing it on him. Also gave him credit for the AA's he already went to or whatever.

One other piece of advice I can give you is, seek where you can attened AA Classes and register before the court orders you too. This will show the court you are serious about cleaning up your act.

so i got my first DUI, was pulled over for turning into the wrong lane, blew a .13, and have a clean record, is it worth paying the money for a lawyer? Considering i also am a college student in good academic standing, and work for a school district, is that stuff that matters and enough to get the best deal i can get from a judge with no need for a lawyer?

*also, the first cop who pulled me over initially was going to let me go as long as i left my car there and took a cab or called for a ride, and it wasn't until the sgt showed up and decided to further investigate, that i got the DUI. is this something a lawyer could work with to completely get me off the hook?

i just dont know if i should pay the money for a lawyer or just go in on my own. ive been getting mixed answers
GET A LAWYER.

The courts are not going to be all nice and cuddley to you. You got a fucking DUI. They're not going to hold your hand and walk you through shit.

I think you should get a lawyer, cause all my friends who have DUI's got a lawyer, and they ended up being glad they did so.

It's up to you either way, but you should at the very least, call and talk to a lawyer about your options and all that.

You talking an actual "Lawyer", or a "Public Defender?"

I just had to ask because some people think a "Public Defender" is a lawyer, but he just happens to be in training to become a lawyer. Almost same diffrence.
if they were training to be lawyers, they wouldn't be allowed to do what they do in court...cause you gotta pass the bar and all that bullshit.

they are just groupies for the system basically. they aren't training, they are lawyers...they're just SHITTY lawyers....they wouldn't be allowed to represent someone in court unless they had the license or whatever the fuck they have to become a lawyer.

Same as you, never been to jail or have a record. So thought going in to say ' yeah, I did it, Im guilty'
Have to pay $1500. Take 1hr half class 1ce a week for 4mths, $20 every class, which I have to take 1 1/2 off work to attend to. Take a piss test, call 3 times a week to see IF I do go in, $30 everytime. Required a interlock for every vehicle I drive for a year. Heard its $75 a month. Licensce got tookin a for 4 months, should get it back soon now. which I did have to go to the DMV lil court.
Im bit frustrated N tired for doing all this shit but takin it. Get a lawyer.

Hella people got this DUI shit twisted and it's sad. .13 is a definite DUI no matter if you get a lawyer or bring back johnny cochran from the dead. You gonna be tagged with a DUI for 10 years on your dmv record. Even if you get the court to lower it to wet/reckless, with the DMV it's still considered a DUI. Just dress to impress at the courts, show up on time, take the no contest plea, say you really can't afford paying these court fee's right now and they'll ask how much you can pay. I said I can only pay $40 bucks a month for my 800 something fine. If i said lower I'm not sure if they'll take it but it's worth a try. Had to go to DUI school even tho my shit was wet/reckless. Paid about 1200 for the class and whatever it came with. Got my license to drive back and forth to my job only and ofcourse the DUI class. You'll meet some girls there too! haha. Unless u in a session with a bunch of old farts with some crazy drunkin stories. LAWYERS will be a waste of money. If you need info just ask the public defender. That's the muthafucka that lowered my case to wet/reckless. and I didn't even ask nobody i just kept YES SIRing and wore my nice clothes while all these prostitutes taking the stand trying to fight their case i was being looked at as a respectable person that is willing to take responsibility for his action and i got a lil lucky with my charge. fuck a lawyer you gonna piss the judge off.

in my DUI class they all said that a lawyer was a waste of money. you won't beat a DUI case. .08 - .10 is when you would try and get your shit lowered to wet reckless. .13 means your a scrap.

Wrong. I know hella people that have walked away with NO charges, not reduced charges, with much higher BAC's because of a good lawyer. There are thousands of things the cops can do wrong and if so, your case would be thrown out.

Where did you pull over? How many cops were there? What did they say to you? Did you refuse field sobriety tests? Did they administer one anyways? What was their probable cause for suspecting you had been drinking (making a wrong turn WOULD NOT count as probable cause to suspect you had been drinking) etc etc etc....

I wonder why they would say that :ermm:

they won't send you in unless you are convicted.....get yourself a lawyer, almost all conspiracy charges should always be able to be dropped by good lawyers

I guess I am wrong if you factor in all those possibilities. Haha. My bad, but would you be willing to pay racks of money to the lawyer just to beat a case you aint sure you will beat? if you know you are not wrong than try, but if you are driving drunk you just askign to be pulled over anyways so just take it. but usually these cops already tried everything to cover their asses so you might need to bring back johnny cochran like i said before.

I wonder why they said that too...maybe so i can spread the word so that nobody will ever try and contest another DUI? fuck em.

dui class had a fine ass bitch there too bad she was a drunk.

U WERE A COP, U SHOULD KNOW.

PLUS, I KNOW STEVE IS A PRETTY INTELLEGENT DUDE........ WHAT DID YALL DO WHEN EDDIE GOT BUSTED IN THAT STOLEN MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE WITH HIS COUSIN? HOW'D U GET HIM OFF THE HOOK?
id rather not go into how i got him off the hook...but ill just say harriet did not take it too well (while lil richie had this creepy little fag boy grin on his face the whole time he heard me explain what i had to do)

but in all seriousness, thanks to everyone for all the advice. ive decided im gonna go in and plead guilty. i realized i dont really have much for a lawyer to work with so im just gonna go in and hope the judge is understanding and serves me with the minimum standard punishment.

and i had just saved up to get this big tat of a river and a maze all up my arm into my chest that was gonna cost me about 1200 bills, but now that moneys going to the state. bullshit

I know that when I PERSONALLY need legal advice, the first place I turn is siccness.net lol

In all seriousness though man I hope all works out well for you and that this might be a wakeup call to not drink and drive. Lost someone close to me that way but I'd be lying if I said I never did the same thing. After they passed, that was all the wake up call that I needed.

NO CONTEST

The no contest plea is almost always used when the plea results in immediate sentencing. Additionally, a person convicted of a crime who pleaded no contest is just as guilt as if he or she pleaded guilty.

Trust me Homie, it's better than just pleading guilty.
