My advice would be to to two things first.
1. Paperwork. file business papers, publish in the paper, open a free business checking account, etc. That costs no more that 50 bucks total. Register with BMI as an artist.

2. Figure out what the hell YOU want out of it. Exit plan. Is it just to have fun and make music, or is it to build a roster of atists to sign to a major one day.... is it to have disposable income or to live off of. Just knowing what your goals are is important.

Before any of the music stuff gets going, I think these two things should happen first

1) Get your lyric sheets together and bound them together in a workbook.

2) Get all of your music equipment and make sure it is in a nice safe spot in the corner of your house.

3) Get all your artists and producers under contract and have them stand next to the equipment.

4) Place your lyrics on the equipment.

5) Completely soak that corner of the house in gasoline.

6) Light it on fire and shoot anyone who tries to escape.

7) Turn the gun on yourself.

post up some music and let us decide if you ready....if you dont know how to get in the musci biz you dont need to be in the biz cause you obviously are an overnight hype mkan tryin to be a star based on the fact that you dont know the first thing about the business and have access to the internet, do some research, read some books , do a yahoo search homie....and just because you can or think you can rap doesnt mean you should.
we have a flooded market right now and i dont see land ahead....maybe you should stick to makin demos on a 4-track dogg

Everyone talks about a flooded market but a flooded market is a good thing for an up and coming artist who actually has skills.
He will stand above the rest, the shitty stuff will be his mound.
A flooded market is a bad thing for a shitty rapper who's just adding to the pile of shit....

Unfortunately, 90% of the so-called artists out there today are just adding more trash to an over-filled dumping site....

A market flooded with low quality releases really hurts the consumer as well. They are not going to take chances on an artist they haven't heard because they've been burned by countless other bad cds from both nonames and established artists. And that means the artists, good or bad, aren't going to get the consumer to pry the $15 from his wallet.

The market IS flooded dude. You're crazy if you don't think so.
Not JUST rap either. Im talking about hard rock, RnB, hip hop, electronica of all types, progressive, etc etc.
Lots of shit being put out is junk.
Why would anyone waste their time naming off artists that are 'flooding the market'?? There are too many to name, plus its better not to get personal and shit. Thats gay.

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!

I'm TRYING to get in this game myself for the fact that I have skills in FREESTYLING and WRITING. Me I see myself on tha indie route 'cause majors ain't 'bout shit but getting a talent off tha street with no biz know-how and taking it thru tha A & R ringer and promotion ringer for mass consumption. What I want outta rap is my OWN PUBLISHING COMPANY AND SOMEDAY LABEL. I'm not tryin' to flood a market, I'm trying to make a new road. I'm original and I pride myself on perfecting my shit REGARDLESS of how bad mothafuckas want it quickly. Plus I can get paid off originality not conformity.

Your first mistake...

Is referring to the music business as a "game".

Secondly, use your own language don't use terminology other people use (ie, "this rap game").

That's a start ..

MrFedEx503 - You asked a question and people responded accordingly. Don't get mad because the responses weren't all cake and ice cream like you expected.

a little constructive criticism and he just breaks down into pieces.....homie ya career is over before it even started. Just imamine how this kids gonna react when a label says he needs to re-do his album, or change his cover art, or come with a different angle... He must expected JT to just say "hey i'll sign you...call me "
lmmfao...this kids has the nerve to call us ignorant muthafuckas when we answered his question with honest opinions...

DOGG....... GO BUY 2 BOOKS

1. "HOW TO BE A RAPPER" FOR DUMMIES $29.99
( walgreens also sells the "How to be a Rapper Overnight" kit for $17.99)

2. jt's Ceo Manual $100

for real, you got 10 million cats tryin to sell album and about 175,000 of them can actually rap
Exactly and this is how a good artist can really stand out.

I guess no one sees it like I do.
But oh well, It only makes it easier for me to really stand out once our album drops bout mid next year....

The market is flooded with bullshit.
Even well known artists, people who were once considered legends are pushin garbage.
But dope sells itself, it's a fact in the streets and it's the same in the music business. You bring out a dope album and people will buy it!....
