^^^i dont know what u guys are talking about...maybe the South "owns" mainstream rap for right now, but thats only as long as record labels and stations see the south as a way of making money...hip hop is so unstable and dispensable that it could move to any region, any time...the south should be dependable, but i dont think that people REALLY know whats going on in the south, they only know bubba sparxx, dem franchise boyz, d4l, chamillonaire, paul wall, etc. (not that a few of those artists are bad)...all im saying is nothing is guaranteed and to say that anyone has a hold on the game is bullshit...now, the underground game, thats a little different...the south may have the stronghold on it, maybe new york, but thats another (and better) argument.

I think it was hillarious....and after reading thru these comments I'm not really agreeing with what I'm reading...someone said jim jones would kill any of them foos.....jim jones? :ermm: and someone saying ludacris & jay-z are wack? :ermm: noone doubts that the east has lyrics....hell, its all they focus on since noone's been making good beats out there lately with the exception of just blaze...swizz beats comes tight occassionally as well, but the east has never had beats....they make walkman music, shit you gotta sit there and decipher like "damn son, that was mad clever yo" while the south and west have always had the beats for the clubs & the cars with systems....and the first verse the dood from field mob spit was clean...."I got hotter 16s then that R kelly tape"

i would normally disagree about ny taking it back, but the only reason im entertaining the idea is the young talent they got over there....also alot of their heavy weights have been sleeping for a while.....the south is here to stay but i think they are reaching their peak.......to me, s. cali has got to due something major........cuz they lacking, i just hope the bay gets more than its 15 minutes and gets more recognition for the mobb shit as well as the hyphy shit

I don't think it has as much to do with the demographics as it does the two different types of music the two regions are putting out.

The South has made party music the most popular form of rap music today, and one thing I like about what they've done is that they made Hip Hop fun again, with their uptempo, minimalistic synth driven tracks.

The East on the other hand is mostly slick lyrics, darker production, and more hood reality type of songs...a lot more serious w/ wordplay playing a much bigger role.

What I don't understand is why people feel like they have to choose a side...one or the other.

Me personally, I like the fact that I have different types of music to cater to my different moods/emotions...its not like I feel a certain way all day, every day

Imagine how boring Hip Hop would be without the diversity...

Nobody is gonna end no careers regardless of where the "home of hip hop" is.

You must not know much about the NYC. Home of MC's. But in reality you cant end a career that was never a career in the first place.

I am not a Field Mob fan at all but NYC rappers really need to quit hatin on the South because it's entirely their fault that they fell off

And it was said a few times (maybe not in the same way) but the only thing that's different between today's South music and NYC music from the early 80s is the explicit language and thematic (but that's what a lot of NYC rappers also do); other than that it's all 808 driven party stuff

Irrelevant to the topic. Go back underneath the rock.
