they are both important you need some street cred for anyone to even give your music a chance like what if 50 cent came out as a snitch and still dropped in the club his success would not be anywhere near what it is now but you need to keep makin good music for people to keep bumpin your shit
but in the end its all about the music, fuck polotics

I thought Kanye West was beefing with Chuck from Street Cred for a minute there. This question depends on where you are from and what you want out of the business. Some people choose street cred, me myself I would rather make relevant music.

Both Good Music Should at least Be Believe. Kanye could pro'lly make a Dope Ass Nigga Witta Perm Smoking Wet song. But i couldn't listen knowing he don't know what he's speaking on

Good music of course. Like I feel Kanye's music 100% and he's not a street dude feel me.
A lot of these artists are in their 30's still boasting about street cred and that shit is lightweight sad ya know.

I could give two shits about street cred... Stevie Wonder, Prince, Marvin Gaye, EPMD, The Pharcyde... None of them had any hood stripes... But they all bump... And every hood star that I ever met is where all hood stars gather... The pen...! Not the studio...

LOL

Dumb question, but I'll answer anyways...

Easily good music. I don't know any of these super thug rappers personally, so why do I give a shit if they have any street credibility? Seriously...it seems like 3/4 of these ''gangster rappers'' are entertainers, therefore they're, at best, half real, which is kind of like comparing them to Midget Mac; they're half a G.

Phil Collins is coo' as fuck, too...he doesn't have any street cred, but he'd probably be able to run up into a lot of these rapper's girls.

cred is very important, i listened to sutter kain and liked some of his shit then he acted like a little girl throwing temper tantrums at necro cause he got a better time than he did at a show, it took a lot from him
same goes for kanye west acting like a diva
but in the end, its good music, cause ill still bump some of kain and kanyes better shit, just kinda cringe at certain parts

the sutter & kanye situations have nothing to do with STREET CRED & has everything to dude with grown men acting like girls.
Great point... but acting like a little girl takes from your street cred, and you can get street cred by being a man, but its not directly street shit going on so i understand what you mean

Most artist aren't even factors in their hood so street cred don't hold that much weight but if the artist goes hard on the mic & is pretty respected by the streets it helps.

But in the case of 50 Cent...... he had real stripes & was a "somebody" in the streets but he came into the rap game with a snitch jacket. Because of his cross over appeal & a tremendous push by his label, being sighned 2 to Em etc. that pushed the snitch shit to the backseat.
