But you'd never know it from Riley. His M.O. is to remain calm, think it through, dust off the pressure. He said that's how he's approaching this deadline. "The main thing is do the right thing," Riley said. "But there is no question we need to make this team better. It has to be done in the right way. It won't be done in a knee-jerk reaction. We can (wait). We prefer to find a solution before the deadline. But if we have to, we can do it this summer." The reality is a difference-maker is probably not going to come by the Feb. 24 trade deadline. The Warriors' main assets, the more than $17 million of expiring contracts, are not as valuable. Few difference-maker types are available. The ones who are would require something the Warriors don't want to give up. San Jose Mercury-News

Were there any surprises with who didn’t make the All-Star team? Jamal Crawford: Josh Smith. I thought he would’ve made it. Monta Ellis I thought would’ve made it on the West. I think those two are the biggest to me. SLAM

Asked about the loss, which dropped the Warriors to 22-28 (and made Joe Lacob’s 28-27 wish by the All-Star break impossible), Ellis was typically blunt: “Think we played terrible. Embarrassed that we just came out and played the way we played.” He was so right. Why is it always up to Ellis to speak the harder truths about this team… which management and coaches usually won’t? According to multiple sources, the Warriors have inquired about Nene, a 6-foot-11, 250-pound center from Brazil. But the Nuggets would have to agree to trade him, and Nene would have to agree to a contract extension because he is a pending free agent. Contra Costa Times

But help likely won't come before the Feb. 24 deadline, according to insiders. Some of the other bigs the Warriors would love -- such as Memphis' Marc Gasol -- aren't available, would require dismantling the nucleus of the team or don't want to sign with Golden State. Contra Costa Times

Their best chance of landing a big man who can score inside, one team source said, will likely be in the offseason. But even that will depend on collective bargaining negotiations. Contra Costa Times

Would either team do a Nene/JR Smith for Biedrins/Monta? Or a Nene/Al Harrington for Biedrins/Monta? Chad Ford: I think there's some interest there on both sides. Too early to get an exact read -- the Melo stuff has to get taken care of first -- but the Warriors have been very active as well and want a dominant big man. ESPN.com
