it always goes under some kind of radar, but there hasn't been one report out in any city stating that gang violence has gone down because of the injunctions, they've been around for 30+ years in LA and gang violence has gone up over 400%

the city needs to provide more jobs & programs for our youth, affordable housing and better education and stop criminalizing our young black&brown communities -

I agree w/ the notion that an injunction doesn't target the roots of gang problems

but what alternative is there for police, from the perspective of doing their job and targeting this problem?

^ turnout was great, we had about 150+ people come out (cbo's, community members, some folks on the injunction list, public defenders office, ACLU, DCYF & other government officials) we packed the little room so they had to make an overfill room (fire hazard bullshit) - City Attorney Dennis Hererra backed out last minute and sent a representative from his office to speak to the board of supervisors..bitch ass Dorsey who stuttered and couldn't answer not one question correctly (white man at the end of the pics)

our next moves are to push for a new legislation which includes a clear opt-out process as well as fair criteria for people to be added to the list as well as holding police accountable for actions they take when arresting people on the list -

some of the people who spoke included a woman from the bayview who on Thanksgiving day had her family over and her nephew happened to be on the list, so the gang task force went into her house uninvited while she was in the shower and held her kids down at gunpoint - when she came out the shower without knowing they were in the house they told her to put her hands up at gun point naked in front of her children

End poverty, drugs in homes, broken marriages and gang $hit is over. It all starts with good parenting. Proper families are the only ones that can prevent this shit, not school, police, coucelers and other "professionals." Until then, there's no way you can stop it. Gang injunctions are the only way to slow down the problems for the police. It seems fucked up, but what else could they really do.

Btw, those kids at the podium could have dressed better. They look sloppy as fuck. lol Looks like their really serious about this.

Yes, if you ain't gang affialiated, there's no reason why you should be dressing like that. No reason to have a completely shaved head, wearing loccs, wearing all blue or all red, bandannas, kakis, jerseys, wifebeaters, beanies, etc... If your black or brown, you should know better when it comes to wearing that kind of stuff and especially if your in a area where gangs are. I can understand sporting one thing like the loccs or just a beanie, but when you combine shit like a Raider Jersey with kakis, loccs, & Nike Cortez now your looking like a str8 thug. I don't understand why people can't dress casual. I stopped getting shorter fades (2 on top/skin or 0 on sides) because I realized that shit is just tacky, it's ghetto and also simple. Not to mention, all the looks from faggot ass dudes trying to dog. It just brings unwanted attention. I like my longer combed back hair better now, looks more universal and proper. Also looks like I actually care about my appearence since it's gelled up and wet looking, not all dry n shit. The chicks dig it, it ain't intimidating. There comes a time when you just need to mature and grow out of your old trends. Those guys in those pictures above just ain't.

In my opinion, there can only be an alternitive when the primary decision can be morally and ethically defended. In this case, gang injuctions violate both, so there cant be an alternative to this decision (gang injuction) because it is irrational decision. Gang injuctions should never have even been on the menu in the first place. Clean the slate, start from square one, and think about this problem differently. They seriously need to start putting new people in charge of things like this, beauracrats know jack shit about the streets. Community leaders need to run for office, native of the area in question because they know the area and what it took to grow up in that area and the resources they used to be prosperous in it. Then you will see change. Start by forming a team of people to go around the neighborhood, spread the word, flyers, anything to catch the attention of low income minority families who often dont have time to think about community issues because they are often unaware of what their child is doing anyway. Offer incentives, anything to catch there attention and inform them about the dangers going on to them in the community as well as there children. Thats why so many minorities never make it to college, because its never stressed in the home compared to upper -middle class whites. We laugh at white people because of the way they raise there kids and the way they act and hold themselves, but these are the people who make it to the top. Sure there are outside variables affecting this like racism, stereotypes, and other shit like that but anything is possible. We need to stop selling ourselves short.
Also, picking up and jailing gangmembers will never work, they will go to jail, and join prison gangs which facilitate everything that goes on in the street anyway. Take a look at what a gang member is, most are childhood neighborhood friends who watched each others backs from other people gunning for them. You gotta look at infrastructure when your dealing with complex social issues. Anyway, put me in office damn it ill change some shit around cuz some people are retarded. if u made it to this point thanks for reading hahaha.

BTW, LadyTragik, I have some questions about the flyers.

I mean, I think those flyers look nice and all. But why the old english font, why the graffiti look, why the blood splatters??? Is this a way of being sarcastic or what? To me, it just seems like it's glorifying the gang shit or trying to make it seem OK as if it's a way of our culture or watered down.

Also, why say, "What do our hoods need?" ???

Instead, it should say, "What do our communities need?"

Why down play your community by calling it a "hood?" Again, is this a way of being sarcastic or what?

AY LADY TRAJIK, can u answer this guys question????????????
i agree with booboo to an extent. But i think Lady Tragik feels that "hood" holds different meaning to different people, why should she have to call the area other than what the people living it call it? If they prefer to call it hood, its their right, why should they change it? To make the officials happy and make them feel safe by switching the vernacular? From hood to community sounds a lot better sure but why cater to the people who dont help you anyway, at least keep your identity. They cant take that.

But agreeing sorta to what boo boo says, i feel that they should have came in dressed to impressed. Its just wrong imo to opinion to show up to a hearing wearing a beanie, long white tees, and bandanas. Its what THEY EXPECT. Its easier to control a population if they already know how your going to behave. Suprise them a little and wear a suit and conduct yourself like a proffesional. Wearing a suit doesnt make u a sell out or rob ur identity, NO ONE likes wearing suits all the time, even the members of the board would probably have liked to be in that meetiing dressed in jeans and t shirts, but you have to maintain the integrity of the city by putting up a facade of proffesionalism to an extent. Dressing like that wont say anything other than you are unable to be proffesional. Think of it like an interview.

I think they are worried about selling out, and staying true to who they are, but you can still play their side of the field without selling out.
