OK, another situation for ya to think about......friend of mine is with a woman for over 10 years, they have 3 beautiful kids. The woman decides to tell him that 2 of the babies (10 and 8) aren't his, after he raised these children and loved them as if they were his very own. Dude freaked out, slapped her around a little bit and when the police showed up, he had a gun to her head makin her suck his dick. They sentenced him to 40 years, which he will serve about 12 of. Before he went to jail, he was a star athlete, he was a coach for 2 different teams at the little league, and he was a loving father, uncle, friend and mentor to many many kids. He would never hurt a child. Now, when he is released in 2010, he will have to register, and everything he knows will change. IS that right?? I don't think so.
Anger or not, that is not justified. His rage and betrayel must have been great. That's a horrible thing to happen to a man. But he had different options, despite what he thought at the time. The act of putting a gun to a woman's head to force fellatio in an act of ANGER is his way of trying to control the power in the relationship. He was so angry and hurt that he felt compelled to force his dominance in the situation? He wasn't thinking clearly because of his rage at her?
Murder is still murder if a man walks in on his wife in bed with another man and shoots them both. He can claim anguish, rage, confusion in his defense and a jury MAY have some sympathy. But in both cases, he made an active decision to get a gun and point it.
It is a sad scenario, but I would be apt to say that he was pushed into instability and needs more help than punishment. But also, that he needs to be watched now very carefully. I am not the law, obviously, so my opinion doesn't matter. However, if I met the man years from now and he explained his scenario to me I would be very wary of him. A friend can feel empathy for his pain, but as an outsider I would see him as a risk.
