eminen was so long ago i dont even know if he rappin anymore. second of all artists who sell records make money on shows not sales. what they make 8%. third check your info i went to school in hollywood for this shit labels are not paying a&rs anymore period. and everyone knows someone at interscope lol. And no there is ways for a newcomer to come up sellin out makin a garbage song like vans and come up. then theres like i said payola. and then there is getting a huge buzz like t9, then theres gettin signed by dre. dre could turn me into an instantb star, and then get shot in the face nine times. then there having major, major talent and pushin yourself with yo own bread and gettin a buzz. but cats in the bay really aint gettin buzz outside the bay right now unless you already have it for ex. fab. but NO THERE AINT NO A&R'S PERIOD.
It's not just about DRE, any major label can make anybody they want. Take Soulja Boy for example. Jimmy Iovine can also make anybody a star, it's not just current superstar producers, it's also businessmen.
About making garbage songs, that's how the major players work. They make shit hot, period. A lot of cats like myself don't dig the new shit, but it sure as fuck makes money. Besides, let's be real here, this music shit is a business...people are in it to get paid.
Everyone KNOWS someone at Interscope? I don't KNOW anybody at Interscope personally, but I do know they are there. I've been at a table with A&R's from Interscope, so don't tell me there are none.
Payola has been around, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking it's ethical. In fact, it's not even a legal practice. On top of that, like this here, if you are an artist that knows the business, you wouldn't fall into that shit. Radio stations get paid on advertisements...taking money for spins is absolutely against the code. PLUS, radio is there to PAY artists. Yea. Get your business right, publish your shit, put it on the radio and start gettin' paid. It's not the other way around. Again, just like this, if you want somebody to do something for you, pay THEM, not the other way.
As for A&R's...let's see here.
Mickey Wright
Ted Chung
Murray Elias
William Engram
Ron Fair
Pete Ganbarg
Wendy Goldstein
Teresa La Barbera-Whites
Marc Labelle
Those are just URBAN A&R's.
