fuck that, that pay for play is crap, straight up. wonder why fans rarely come out to local bay shows anymore, the highest bidder isnt necessarily the best option to go with. I hate that this is goin on in the bay, I left Kansas City to avoid all of that cuz i thought back in the bay where im born and raised from wouldnt be doin wack shit like this...

there is pride in being an artist. your swagger and ego and charisma is what is supposed to put you at the level you belong. not handing some random human 500 and say put me in the game coach.

and for the record we get on kos as well when he comes with the super hyphy openers that only a peasant and or a fool would pay for. i promise you dont sell 1 cd off those shows. it just doesnt work like that.

well realitys a bitch. there are no a&r reps anymore. nobody searchin for talent (except reality shows) and maybe diddy. walk into a major with a demo theyll laugh. they want fully finished projects mixed mastered and promotional plan, just to even listen, then you have to a buzz anyways. then there is payola. so get it right pay to play has always been part of this biz. where the fuck have you guys been? any one who said they are and a&r is full of shit. Majors are droppin like flies Qoute me in 5 years there will be slim to none major labels. they dont make no money no more why u think indi is the way to go. butr then again pay to play studio time, beats, mix master, promo. And sorry to burst bubbles here no one has got enough skill these days for a label to actually push like they used to. not to say theres no skill but a label will not put a million into an unknown no more aint happenin.

So you're saying there are no A&R reps anymore? Who handles all the artists that are still making millions of dollars? I'm pretty sure it's not just a bunch of singers and rappers running wild, doin' their own shit. As long as there are labels, there will be A&R's. I know of one dude off top over at Interscope who is looking for unsolicited shit, which means they are STILL LOOKING! There's more than that one A&R, and I know this to be fact. Don't get it twisted, artists and labels are still making money, otherwise they wouldn't be there. They are just making money in different ways...they had to sit back and catch up with technology real quick, and change the game plan.

They aren't making as much money off RECORD SALES! You can't pirate concert tickets or publishing...and that's where a shit load of the money comes from.

So, with your THEORY, are you suggesting that what you are doing is the only way for a newcomer to come up? That's a bit bold, isn't it? I've sold records and re-pressed on my own and I've never paid for a feature, and I've never paid to get on stage.

Fact of the matter is, an upcoming artist can't BUY success in this game. When it comes to major labels, you're either marketable or you're not. They can take an artist who never sold a record and make a star out of them. Case in point, EMINEM!

eminen was so long ago i dont even know if he rappin anymore. second of all artists who sell records make money on shows not sales. what they make 8%. third check your info i went to school in hollywood for this shit labels are not paying a&rs anymore period. and everyone knows someone at interscope lol. And no there is ways for a newcomer to come up sellin out makin a garbage song like vans and come up. then theres like i said payola. and then there is getting a huge buzz like t9, then theres gettin signed by dre. dre could turn me into an instantb star, and then get shot in the face nine times. then there having major, major talent and pushin yourself with yo own bread and gettin a buzz. but cats in the bay really aint gettin buzz outside the bay right now unless you already have it for ex. fab. but NO THERE AINT NO A&R'S PERIOD.

thank you sydal. we as artists are not trying to decide if we are gonna do it or not. im sure that its always been payola but where else but rap music is it so in your fucking face?

its so frustrating as a 9-5 fulltime worker with bills to pay and trying to provide music and performances to the public. its shit like this that add on to the list of reasons why indy music in the bay is doing bad. im not making accusations or snitching, but fuck, everybody dont have a large disposable amount of cash just to blow. its not that cats are looking for the hook up, its just that us really talented artist dont get heard or shine cuz we dont have "large disposable amounts of cash" on hand like that.

niggas wonder why its so much dope boy talk on records and everybody a gangster. its cuz us regular guys like me get outspent by these cats! cant get on a decent show cuz i cant drop half of this months rent on a 8 minute set when nobody is there, crazy aint it? and the other non pay shows are like talent shows where 99% of the audience is rappers and their crew.

where the hell did all the fans go? i think if somebody actually says hey, i might not make too much money at first but imma allow DOPE artists to perform then eventually i will cash out and have fans at these shows and i will be looked upon as a pioneer instead of a con-man. i guess that ends my rant...does anybody feel me?

oh no diss to you cuddie, im just venting my feelings about how frustrating it is to get shows. and at least you have set performers that you let rock, thats the biz. unfortunatley whenever someone comes on the board offering pay slots they get a response like this. nothing personal, it just sucks for alot of us who want to provide music to the public but we hit roadblocks like the pay for play shows. its hella corny!

yeah, my bad if there was any confusion.the biggest complaint i always hear is "why aint no dope music coming out the bay" or "why dont we have an artist (lyrically) like wayne or jay z".i think its cuz the jay z's and waynes of the bay cant get in the fucking door lol.

i would think it would be more money in finding an original dope artist than recieving half a rack here or there. its like hyphy juice (and this is no diss to any companies who may be reading), yeah there are a bunch of different energy drinks that came out and they may sell, but prolly never as much as hyphy juice cuz they were the first ones with it. zune vs ipod, jeezy vs shawty lo n rocco(they sound like jeezy to me), the comparisons can go on and on. why not be the first one with the new dope shit so u can cash out the most? if anybody need a cash cow holla at me lol

It's not just about DRE, any major label can make anybody they want. Take Soulja Boy for example. Jimmy Iovine can also make anybody a star, it's not just current superstar producers, it's also businessmen.

About making garbage songs, that's how the major players work. They make shit hot, period. A lot of cats like myself don't dig the new shit, but it sure as fuck makes money. Besides, let's be real here, this music shit is a business...people are in it to get paid.

Everyone KNOWS someone at Interscope? I don't KNOW anybody at Interscope personally, but I do know they are there. I've been at a table with A&R's from Interscope, so don't tell me there are none.

Payola has been around, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking it's ethical. In fact, it's not even a legal practice. On top of that, like this here, if you are an artist that knows the business, you wouldn't fall into that shit. Radio stations get paid on advertisements...taking money for spins is absolutely against the code. PLUS, radio is there to PAY artists. Yea. Get your business right, publish your shit, put it on the radio and start gettin' paid. It's not the other way around. Again, just like this, if you want somebody to do something for you, pay THEM, not the other way.

As for A&R's...let's see here.

Mickey Wright
Ted Chung
Murray Elias
William Engram
Ron Fair
Pete Ganbarg
Wendy Goldstein
Teresa La Barbera-Whites
Marc Labelle

Those are just URBAN A&R's.

i think the game keeps getting fucked up,

artist paying to get your shit played,

then artists paying to perform?

for an opening act?

people dont care who opens a show, nobody remembers their name, its not impressive anymore, specially if all you need to do is pay instead of actually being a talented musician with a good buzz

"oh yeah? you payed money to perform for one of hundreds of shows?"

"here is your record deal, that was a wise move"

nah i think u took that wrong, i meant it as "it seems that payola is more in the open in the rap world than other genres". its the same way with president bush. yeah we all knew that previous presidents were in seceret societies n all about making the rich richer, but this guy does it right in your face and makes no apologies, feel me?
