So the openers who PAY to perform are gonna be given like 15 minutes before anyone shows up with little or no promotion? Sounds like a deal!

Don't blame promoters homie. If you've been doin shows for "close to 10 years" then don't just do what your partners want you to....

Pay to play is BULLSHIT

Sorry to put it so bluntly but I call it as I see it
u get to pay to play during the set up of the show..its like a pre game warm up

really this shit happens all the time, at least dude has his own opening acts that he knows are talented and well-rehearsed, really tho bro how much extra doe can u make by charging 500$ to a bunch of opening acts, and what dent does that even make when you gotta pay headliners RACKS...why not just get all well rehearsed openers that have good promotion behind them that will bring a crowd of fans to spend 20 at door and 30-50 on the inside on cds and drinks and other shit??

Charging $500 for cats to perform? Why in the fuck would somebody do that? They are spending THEIR TIME and showing THEIR TALENT...YOU should be paying THEM! I get paid between $200 and $700 to do shows at certain places, and sometimes I do 'em just for the fuck of it. I'm not huge, but venue owners see me bring them an assload of business and they bread me out. But NEVER would I PAY to PERFORM!

Y'all got the game twisted. When people are WORKING, they are the ones getting paid. Working is taking time out of your day to perform a task or duty in the exchange for currency. Would you pay a company for a job just so you can have experience? NO! You might intern, do it for nothing for the experience, but you would never come out of pocket.

When these "openers" sell a few thousand more records because of this, I'd be upset I didn't do it. But, I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

In any case, it's a question of ethics. Playin' people to get paid isn't cool regardless...and only cats that don't know any better are going to do this and be disappointed when nothing comes out of it. Nobody is talkin' shit, we just know that when we perform, we're supposed to get paid to do it...not pay somebody to "Let Us" do it.

More power to you. Keep grindin'

i feel everyone on here, i just think if ur an artist who needs to be heard and step ur show game up than fuck it, if there was 7000 people there and ur dope thats 7 thousand more people who no u, and if u really do ur thang lets low ball and say 1000 go out and buy ur album, if ur getting 8$$ a cd thats 8 thousand dollars, not to mention how much merchandise u can get off at the show, if u were a hustla u could make more than u paid, not to mention networking back stage with the head liners and all that... ....all im trying to say is if ur young and think u have some skill and u have product on the shelf or cds to sell at the show, it is well worth it, if ur an internet rapper that has no cd in stores or to sell at show and have no clue on how to network with the head liners and hyphy dave, who throws pretty big shows, than ya..... not ur cup of tea

So if you're not a sucker, you're an internet rapper? Would you pay money to shake hands with a headliner, when he's probably going to forget your name in 2 minutes? I've seen people who were DOPE, but they got booed off stage because the people didn't go there to see THEM! They wanted to see the headliners.

Not to mention, if cats won't put you on just because you're sick, you have no business performing in the first place. Stepping your stage game up should be done at smaller venues, where it's a little easier to work with crowds.

Nothing personal to Hyphy Dave, 'cause I respect what dude does. This, however, is one of those things that irks REAL ARTISTS! A real artist doesn't fork out money to do the things you mentioned, Berner. No artist with self-respect would pay to network with cats or pay to get on a stage.

If you have GAME, you do that shit without coming out of pocket. The only way I'd pay to network or perform, is if I was comin' out of pocket for a plane ticket to go wherever I needed to be.

bernies point about if you are a hustler and are in a position to make back MORE then what you put into it is true tho, in that case it would be an investment, and if u were to make a profit, or ended up networking and making an important connection, possibly getting paid shows based on your performance, then it would be worth it....
