Instead of calling us retards maybe you could inform us of these better ones?
Revtt and tti for movies, tvshows, etc.

what.cd, and waffles.fm for music.

Demonoid is good for older and rare stuff that sometimes isn't found on these other trackers.

whats the difference of a midi controller, and using time-coded records to midi control? you might get a little more accuracy with time-coded... but at the end of the day they both just playing mp3's... same shit
Wrong. Serato and Ableton are completely different when it comes to dj'ing. Yes they both use mp3's but that's about where the similarities end. Ableton does everything in time with the master tempo, you dont have to adjust the pitch or even cue a track in at the right point. It does it all for you which is a big part of what being a DJ is all about. Do a little research and you will see what I mean.

^ I use TORQ, personally I love it, and chose it over Serato, and Ableton because of its master midi sync, and effects / sample section... I still cue, change pitch, loop ect...

To each there own, but I've heard some dope sets with Ableton Live when it comes to mash ups... but having turntables just "looks" cooler. To supplement my set I sync a ER-1, and whatever keyboard I feel like bringing out the lab. BUT I don't consider myself a DJ, more of a hiphop / electro

I disagree on the party where you say that using turntables only looks cooler. Using turntables is 100x harder than a program that will beatmatch and sync everything for you.

Serato and Torq are similar but I don't think you can really compare those two programs (or Traktor) to the way Ableton Live approaches DJ'ing.

Serato might lack some of the features of other programs but it's main appeal is how simple it is. It's main purpose is for you not to have to buy vinyl and drag it to your gig every time. It was made for people that were already DJ's as a convenience thing, while Ableton Live takes a whole different approach at dj'ing.

No doubt Ableton Live is cool as fuck and you can do a lot with it. Wasn't trying to take away from the program at all, I use it every day, just not to dj in a live situation. I have just seen people that sit there and play ableton live without even a midi controller and call themselves DJ's. That is what irks me about it.

But you're right, to each his own, every program has its different purpose, but in a club setting, there is a reason why Serato is the standard.

My take on this new DJ thing is it's bullshit. Had this DJ charge me $350 for a night. That's cool for a good DJ and he had a hot name in Dago. He comes with a fuckin laptop and puts his turntable shit up there for show. Presses buttons all night. WTF! I'm from a different age. That's like a rapper lip singing to me.

The unfortunate thing about the new technology is it allows a lot of people to be poser dj's.

I understand "SYNC" is cheating... but very useful on live remixes ( serato has beat sync too)

Going "back" to vinyl is like asking studios to go back to reels and adats... just not happening.

maybe I'm playing devils advocate but what is the difference between a time coded turntable vs a time coded jog wheel? what if you mapped a rotary knob as the jog wheel? what is the main difference they all do the same thing right?

maybe .02 sec reaction time? and you
