Deadpool broke the record for highest rated R opening weekend in history with $135 million domestic $260 million worldwide.

A year ago the studio was scared the movie was gonna bomb, then last week they green lit a sequel because it was projected to do $60 million, then later in the week the projection was $90 million. This movie blew up huge.

The previous biggest rated R movie opening ever was The Matrix Reloaded with $91 million.

'Deadpool' kills with record $135M weekend at box office

Finally seen this and it was basically Van Wilder became super mutant or whatever you want to call Deadpool. I didnt laugh that much but it certainly was far less corny then most comic book movies with the jokes. I think if people never saw Van Wilder it would be a better experience besides the action. Still a good movie, i did like Guardians of the Galaxy better but finally felt like i wasnt watching a kids movie

Van Wilder was essentially what Ryan Reynolds got his name from, they were college humor type films, similar kind of raunchy jokes that were often made in Deadpool. But that's why he was perfect for the role, even in the comic at one point Deadpool says his looks are "cross between Ryan Reynolds and a Shar Pei" and apparently Ryan Reynolds has been a big fan for a long as time, there have been articles and fan discussions years ago saying he would be perfect for the role, so it all made perfect sense.
