This REALLY sucks!!
RICHMOND, Calif. -- The Richmond Police Department reported that a former De La Salle High School football player was the victim of a fatal shooting Thursday night, two days before he was going to leave for college.
According to Lt. Mike Pon, Richmond resident Terrance Gerald Kelly, 18, was shot several times in the upper torso as he was picking up his brother from a friend's house in the 300 block of Seventh Street.
When Kelly's brother exited the residence at 10:41 p.m., he found Kelly lying in a pool of blood, Pon said.
After emergency personnel attempted to treat Kelly, he was pronounced dead at the scene, Pon reports.
Witnesses claim that three or four people were seen fleeing the scene westbound on Nevin Avenue.
Kelly played tight end and linebacker for the Concord-based high school, according to De La Salle's website.
Pon reported that Kelly had received a full scholarship to attend the University of Oregon, and was going to leave for school Saturday.
An emotional crowd, of approximately 100 people, began to gather at the scene of the crime to mourn the loss of the popular football player, Pon said.
The case was still under investigation and there is no motive at this time.
