Hatton offers Floyd $10 Million

Promoter Dennis Hobson has offered Floyd Mayweather £5m to fight Ricky Hatton in Britain later this year.

Mayweather says he is willing to come out of retirement to fight Manchester's light welterweight champion.

"I've spoken to some of his people and they've been very receptive. It's a very substantial offer," said Hobson.

[...]

Oscar de le Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Don King are also both believed to have approached the unbeaten Hatton, who made it 43 wins out of 43 by stopping Mexico's Jose Luis Castillo last weekend.

But Hobson is confident he can negotiate a new deal with Hatton and insists the expected huge attendance figures could bankroll a clash with Mayweather.

He added: "There is no reason we can't do it over here. We would be happy to align it with pay-per-view time in the States so it could suit both sides of the Atlantic.

"Mayweather is saying he wants to put pen to paper and this is his big chance to do so."

Hobson also revealed he has been in talks with representatives of IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

"Talks with Malignaggi's camp have been encouraging but that is definitely a Madison Square Garden fight," said Hobson.

"Ideally we would like to get the next one secured in this country for Ricky."

In Britian? Hell no...

If I was Floyd I'd decline it. There would be no way I'd fight that cat in Britain. They should fight in Vegas or not fight at all.

^^Yeah Floyd already said he wont fight in England, "Me and Hatton could be in Madison Square Garden, or Atlantic City, we can do it anywhere. But not Manchester. He'll body slam me, or bring in chairs if he wants, like in wrestling, and I wouldn't stand for that."

I think Hatton would settle for a fight in the US. He'd be an idiot not to (he wants to fight floyd and called him out, not the other way around!)

I still don't think Hatton is good enough to compete with Floyd. He had a really tough time dealing with Collazo, who's a slick/quick boxer, and Collazo is not even in the same hemisphere as Floyd.

I'd honestly rather see Cotto get a shot at Floyd. He's a better pressure fighter than Hatton, or even De La Hoya for that matter, he goes hard to the body, and can cut off the ring with the best of 'em.

I just think Ricky got under Floyd's skin, and Floyd has to save face by at least acknowledging the jaw jackin that Ricky's doing, otherwise people will think he's scared.

Mayweather-Hatton Tentative For Nov. 10

By Mark Vester

It was reported by Steve Springer of the Los Angeles Times that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton has a tentative date of November 10, with Las Vegas being the most logical site.

After days of back and forth verbal battles through the media, both fighters are ready to make the fight a reality. The biggest obstacle appears to be the amount of money each fighter will receive.

Hatton received $2.5 million for the four-round stoppage of Jose Luis Castillo last weekend in Las Vegas, while Mayweather made $20 million for his split decision win over Oscar De La Hoya on May 5. Mayweather is almost sure to demand a significant chunk of money for the fight. Art Pelullo, Hatton's promoter in America, told the paper that if both sides can agree on money - the fight will happen.

"If we can reach agreement on the money, there's no reason it can't happen," said Pelullo.

Mayweather, 30, "retired" after his May win over De La Hoya, and says that Hatton's taunts over the last few weeks have given him the motivation to return. It was noted in The Times that De La Hoya called Hatton after his recent win to congratulate him and made comments in the press with respect to a fight between him and Hatton filling up England's Wembley Stadium. The call from De La Hoya may have been the real reason why Mayweather jumped for the Hatton fight so quickly.

Leonard Ellerbe, advisor to Mayweather, disagrees.

"What prompted [negotiations with Hatton] is, over the last couple of weeks, Ricky Hatton has been saying a lot about Floyd Mayweather," said Ellerbe, "He's used Floyd's name to promote himself. He's calling Hatton's bluff, and now the whole world will see if this guy wants to fight and sign a contract now. ... We can definitely make it happen this year. The ball's in their court."

De La Hoya wants to fight Hatton now? De La Hoya would knock Hatton out. I think Hatton's a good fighter but De La Hoya and Mayweather maybe out of his league. De La Hoya is hard for wanting to go to England for that fight.

^ He understands how much money can be made, just in attendance alone. A true businessman, even though his days as a boxer may be numbered. Just think about how much money could be made.

Wembley seats something like 90,000 and I'm sure it would sell out. Add to that the PPV revenue and those would probably be record breaking numbers.
