It was at first. But they had MMA classes (the one I was at, the teachers kept changing.. so it sucked) but was alright. At first I signed up bekuz of the bundled price when it opened up. But then 3 months later, they said I had to pay extra for MMA. so after the contracted ended, I didnt continue.

As for the cardio boxing/kickboxing, yup, that is true. But they have instructional boxing classes now. I dont have a membership anymore, but I'm kool with the instructor, so I go when I kan.

but that cardio boxing is good as well. If there is one thing that should be stressed is cardio. BJJ kan get you great.. but stand up and being fatigued is another thing. Its why you see alot of great bjj players get gassed when in mma (Alberto Crane for example).

as for AKA.. I agree. There are some good schools in the Bay area... def not as many as LA. But martial arts wise.
you got 10th Planet here by Denny, 3rd street boxing partnered with some bjj group (gi).
oh yeah forgot about 10th planet, not a big fan of the rubber guard tho.

rubber guard is just a position that people gotta learn.. or learn to avoid bekuz alot of people are starting to do it now. Denny has been a solid grappler for a long time, so aside from that, he's got other things covered. I met Denny over at FnF during a Rumina Sato Seminar.

there's a ton of great places around the Bay. Fight and Fitness, World One (Gracie bjj I guess), even SDi in fremont (shit they got escrima).

Yeah trajik find out I'm curious. Since ya'll in San Jose it's probably AKA. I train at Cesar Gracie's. We got the Diaz brothers, Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, Dave Terrel, and some up and comers. At the end of this month I'm gonna start complementing my training by heading over to King's Boxing Gym in Oakland.

Eduardo Rocha as well as Open Door have solid grappling and are good places to train as well. I actually took a free class at Eduardo's a while back.

hell yeah, I'd like to train with them too. Good luck with the American Cup bro. there are hella grapplers now that are just hungry to compete.

More recently, its been Sambo in Sausalito, escrima and sword fighting for me.

back on to the video. Traj, I think your lil homie will be alright. He just need to keep his guard up and know what to do in certain positions (like on his back).

^^ right on.. i used to do kali/escrima.. before i started bjj i did JKD but they moved out to mountain view and i decided to pursue one art rather than a whole bunch, i was 4th generation in lineage under bruce lee. I think i still remember the 11 or 12 points or w/e that you can hit with the sticks.. deflections and shit.

Pacific Coast is just one of the schools under Cesar. We got Pacific Coast in Stockton ran by the Diaz Bros, the Antioch school, the main Pleasant Hill school, Jake Shields' school in Berkeley, Gilbert's school in the city and another school in the city thats an affiliate. I don't go to the Stockton school too much because of the distance.

I was doing the Escrima Serrada (its more close distance) and was formed here in the Bay area. Fukd around with alot of arts just to learn shit. Small Circle Jujitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Tae Kwow Do, Go Ju karate... to MMA, Sambo and BJJ more recent years.

Was doing the fencing (olympic, foil) too, then moved to Rapier (hack and slash/3 musketeers) and Long sword (Lord of the Rings).

I actually like JKD.. ever worked with Paul Vunak?

Tryna learn more weapons, that way when the world goes to shit and kaos breaks out, I'm ready.
-------------------------

I was thinking of doing a tourney... but I seen soo many katz sign up and alot of them are tryna be full time fighters/mma... so they train hella and sometimes, they dont pay. No way I can compete with that. I got school and work.
But aint nothing like grappling... shit is hella fun.
