I don't believe in a deity, but I do believe in a "spirit". I see our physical shells as manifestations of the energy we give off. I see our "soul" as a pure body of energy encased in a physical manifestation, it is manifested so to give our energy focus and form and concept. And thats a very loose/quick version of my philosophy.

^^^This is true!

I am an Atheist because imo it is irrational to believe in the supernatural since there is no evidence for the supernatural. Physical matter is the only reality and everything can be explained in terms of matter and physical phenomena.

There's no particular reason I don't believe in God other that I don't. I have NEVER believed in God, never relied on supernatural "forces" or anything like that. It's my nature and a lot of people can't seem to grasp that. As far as the lack of evidence that 2-0-sixx speaks of, that is why I don't questionmy beliefs, but it's certainly not the reason I don't believe in God.

I am still thinking. I suppose I am agnostic.

I do not believe that anything created me. I do not believe in Heaven or Hell. I do not believe in mystical forces governing our lives.
I used to hope for the supernatural very strongly. When I say "hope for", I mean that I had not actually ever *seen* anything remotely hard-core factual supporting the supernatural. But I *had* seen some freaky things and was wanting to believe very badly that they were not of this world. Just.. something to prove that I wasn't just some collection of cells wanting to be unique. That my conciousness wasn't merely a chemical illusion and that each eletrical spark of my synapses was actually a reflection of my spiritual side. I want to believe in a soul because I don't want to be a pile of genes that deteriorates over years of experience that die with my body.

That somehow, science and the supernatural met on some gray ground that allowed some people to believe in one or the other partially or entirely. As if electrical readings in a home that was said to be haunted were proof that the spirits lived there. ( Haunted places are prone to have higher electrical activity than other places. And skeptics claim that it's this that makes people imagine the place is haunted.)

I had really tried to be connected with the Higher Powers. As a child, I tried to pray and listen for God. I tried so hard. I lost my faith when I was 13-14 because everyone I knew could talk to God except for me, and I was trying the hardest and being very good. I presumed, from that point on, that there must be no god and that people were merely exaggerating and wanting for it so badly that they imagined most of it.

For a short time I was with a pagan/wiccan crowd. I tried to see what they saw. We went places where I would most certainly see a ghost.

I am not searching for a purpose, so why search for a god to have made it for me? I am alive and I will do as I do. The only reason to be good to your fellow man is because it is right to do so, not because there's punishment for it when you die.

I typed a lot. Sorry.

I believe that there is more too then what can be physically felt and seen.. Its hard for me too believe that we just came too be without there being a conscience agenda behind it and just happend too be a product of nature in itself..

but is there only one "god" who governs and controls a higher plane of existence by sorting out those who sinned and those who havent???? NAH..

What kind of evidence/proof do you need?

For me, my prayers have been granted too many times for it to be a coincidence.

Even if any non-believer woke up with Jesus (or any other religious figure) at their bed side, they would just think it's an illusion and the next day probably a dream.

So seriously, what do would you want God to do? What would the Lord have to do in order for you to seriously believe?

Hmm, I don’t know…god could have saved the people of New Orleans or Pakistan. Create peace on earth or at least equality. Intervene with the world somehow. Maybe Jesus, Vishnu or whomever could come to earth and set things straight. Maybe I could find the Virgin Mary in my bed.

Listen, I’m a non-believer but not because I want to be an Atheist. I would love to live in some fantasy world believing when I die I’m going to the land of chocolate or whatever…I am an Atheist because I believe in reality. Not once in my life have I seen anything supernatural or something that could not be answered by logic, the laws of physics and science. Not once, in the history of mankind has one supernatural, paranormal, or even occult power or event ever been proven. That’s what I want- proof or at the very least SOME kind of evidence. If you can prove it, please do, in fact, you could win yourself a million dollars if you apply here http://www.randi.org/research/index.html

But other than that, let me ask you one thing, next time a big hurricane is about to hit, pray for lives to be spared, ok? Pray that no one will die, since god seems to grant your wishes and not the believers who did pray and died for no apparent reason besides being poor and black. They prayed to him to save them and gawd ignored them but apparently he listens to you though. Tell God 2-0-Sixx says “Sup from the Sixx…give Seattle some sunshine this winter and spare the homeless a cold winter and have Jesus come back to earth with that magic loaf of bread and feed the nearly 3 billion starving people of this planet”.

Just because life isn't perfect, doesn't mean there is no God.
Just because a flood happened, or people are hungry, doesn't mean there is no God.

Maybe believing that the Lord (in an Atheirst's case - if there is A God) is supposed to be almighty and great solving everyones problems, is the first distraction.

Why do people have to be proven something all the time?
If someone tells you that someone else is out to put a hit on you, are you going to stand around and wait for a gun in your face? Only stated because it seems that everyone here is real, and lives down to Earth (forget about spirituallity for a sec). If you think people are always going to prove things to you, just so you believe it, good luck because most people couldn't care less if you believed or not (unless they were trying to sell you something) and won't spend the time to do so. So why would God? It's up to you to believe it or not (either way doesnt't bother me one bit), but the lack of having it proved to you is a bare level excuse, even in real life.

Nah bro, it's cuz them New Orleans' folks practice VOODOO yadamean. God was showing us his wrath, cuz he's not all loving like you might have heard.

btw, I don't actually believe that bullshit, but I have heard church monsters attempt to give that explanation...
If God is so perfect, why does he experience wrath? Why does he murder? If God is so perfect, and WE are the sinners, did he not create sin? If he created us, didn't he fail? I can't understand how God is so perfect and we're so evil when he supposedly created us....

The human species evolved. The human mind evolved. In our not too distant past we needed a way to make sense of death, disaster, illness and other tragedies so we turned to the spirit world. We worshipped animals and inanimate objects in the hopes that these entities would heal and protect us. Eventually, this gave way to the worship of numerous deities and finally the worship of one God. Over these tens of thousands of years the concept of God became deeply entrenched into the human psyche so much so that we're now all born with an innate idea of God. Whether we're spiritual or not depends on the environment in which we're raised.

My abridged version.

I should have never created this thread.

You can thoroughly argue against the ridiculousness of christianity yes i know. But other than organized religion, what spiritual knowledge do you have?

Ok, I will throw this notion out, however this should eliminate the Christian god.

Why do people have to be proven something all the time?
Why? Because extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If I told you a unknown force called “Sixxplopolious” existed over the region of Brazil, but it could not be seen nor fully understood, created the universe and came out of George Bush’s ass, you wouldn’t ask for some kind of proof or would you just take my word for it?

If someone tells you that someone else is out to put a hit on you, are you going to stand around and wait for a gun in your face? Only stated because it seems that everyone here is real, and lives down to Earth (forget about spirituallity for a sec).
This is different because I know that humans exist. I know that guns exist. I know that murder exists. Now, no one has the slightest clue what god or sixxplopolioius are.

If you think people are always going to prove things to you, just so you believe it, good luck because most people couldn't care less if you believed or not (unless they were trying to sell you something) and won't spend the time to do so. So I should just force myself to believe in something? Ok, why don’t you force yourself to believe in different god or Sixxplopolious? Makes absolutely no sense at all, there is no logic, no reasoning behind believing in something without the slightest bit of evidence. Your logic does not compute.

These are good questions to ask, which unfortunately, no Christian can truly answer.

aye 2-0-sixx, have u ever heard of scientology??
Yes, it’s a pretty interesting cult that sucks a lot of money out of its followers, like most other religions.

I don’t understand the question.

According to dictionary.com, spiritual means:

spir•i•tu•al (sp r -ch - l)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material. See Synonyms at immaterial.
2. Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul.
3. Of, from, or relating to God; deific.
4. Of or belonging to a church or religion; sacred.
5. Relating to or having the nature of spirits or a spirit; supernatural.
Under these definitions I have absolutely no “spiritual knowledge.” I do not believe in souls, gods, spirits, or the supernatural. I am a materialist - Everything that actually exists is material, or physical, including thought, feeling, mind, and will, all can be explained in terms of matter and physical phenomena.

@PGBD, I agree with you for the most part. I would add to that that the belief in Gods changed to the belief in a single god as the structures of society changed. In the hunter gatherer societies that lived freely, they believed in gods such as Wind, water, the sun, earth, etc. Once societies started to change and people were living under kings, etc., you'll find that they started to believe in single gods.
