I'm not tryin to knock anyones hustle but, personally I don't like mix tapes. It seems people do em cause they don't have the money to do a real album or can't make tight beats and in some cases just being lazy. It just seems unoriginal since the beat is stolen for some one who all ready made it a hit.
But, If you gonna do a mixtape then give it away for free or charge 4 or 5 bucks, and no more. It is good promotion for someone who doesn't have much money to spend on a project.

JUST FOLLOW THE OLD FORMULA, PUT AN LP OUT MIXED, MASTERED AND QUALITY, BUT BEFORE YOU DROP IT, DROP AN EP WHICH IS ALSO *MIXED* AND *MASTERED* AND ABOVE ALL ELSE QUALITY.

Guess you've never heard any of the Alliance mixtapes? They don't meet any of those requirements and they are "FREE." Quality shit. Plus there wern't hardly any out in the Bay when they first started droppin' theirs either.

This is a never ending topic, personally I like mixtapes when they're actually mixed and not pause tapes or screamin and hollerin by the host, etc ... I like mixtapes cause they're more fun to listen too than an album ... That's just me though ...

Just like with regular albums....there are good ones an crappy ones....any mixtape I've taken a part of (ie. Industry Hijack, Jackin Season, On One, Frisco Legends etc) are all MIXED....as they should be....and without yelling etc....

IMO, I would rather hear a GOOD mixtape over a BAD quality, poorly mixed, bairly mastered album anyday...I am a fan of Balance because of his mix cd and his mix and the other mix cd he has been featured on...I had to buy 3 Frontline mix cd's cause mothafucka's kept stealing my shit when I wasn't lookin and if they put out another one I would buy 3 more if I had too...the shit was that tight to me. I liked the Done Deal mix cd...I agree with tadou you have to mix it with original songs and freestyles, but when you jack those beats you got to FUCKIN KILL THE TRACK, make it your own. But what I do see is alot of slimeballs who fucked up the Bay with they WEAK ASS compilations doing it again with their complations dressed up as mix tapes....The problem isn't the mix cd's it's the weak rappers thats making them.
