just cause music is real doesnt make it good. if a movement of rappers out of the castro in the city started making music about how gay their hood is, would that be the shit? i personally dont think gay sex is cool. and i also dont think drug cartels and murder are cool. and narco corridos glorify that stuff, right?

listen to the song "sky is falling" by blackalicious. to me thats pretty real...but maybe its too pop for you

@ Winslow: That's all good and wonderful, but there are two ways to look at the meaning behind the music. There are artists who glorify it, and artists who are relating what's actually going on in their states, in their cities, in their neighborhoods...sort of like rappers do. The thing is...for people who have family there, or came from there, and areas like that...that's part of the culture. That's life.

It's easy to judge, homie...

We've had this argument before, so we don't need to have it again. All I know is that people are gonna write about the lives they LIVE and not anything else. They don't glorify murders and drug cartels IMO, they let people know what's up just like a reporter on the news lets people know whats up. You can't blame the reporter for reporting a murder now, can you?

And I personally like some Blackalicious songs myself, but I would never say that their shit is more real than corridos. You can't get any realer than corridos homie...

i think you can. the news medias motto of "if it bleeds it leads" i think is pretty fucked up. i personally wouldnt let my kid watch the news and all the pointless "another murder in normal heights tonight..." stories

i understand, and youre right. but i bet if i came on here talking shit about kfed and nsync or whatever pop artist, i would not be hearing this shit from anybody. and as "real" as narco corrido music is, it has evolved into a formulaic genre (like pop music) which targets a certain audience, except controversial (so i guess more like mainstream gangsta rap). nsync just sings about love and girls, thats real...and on a universal level at that. nevertheless its acceptable to talk shit about them, even though millions of kids can relate to their music. i know im judging, but i cant help it, i just think that music is such hot garbage, im glad i didnt grow up in that culture. same way im glad i didnt grow up in a nazi culture. but we can judge nazis right?

but yeah youre right, different strokes for different folks or whatever...but with that said, i also think reggaeton is stupid as fuck...so sorry to the ppl ive offended with that one

N'sync may talk about real things, but what I mean is that Corridos are all true stories. They HAVE to happen. To understand corridos is to understand Mexican culture, because corridos are our way of passing on stories from generation to generation. Obviously, if one is not part of the culture, or at least familiar to it without being biased, it is difficult to understand the importance of corridos.

And you CANNOT compare any type of mainstream music to corridos, Gangsta Rap was the closest to it. Maybe Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson...

Maybe that was a bad example, because reporters are not artists. Corridos are an art like any other form of art, and IMO, an artist should never be censored...

and yea it does matter where u go in juarez. some places are ok but if u go to the wrong parts specially if u aint mexican ur fucked. if u got american plates and drive ur car down there ur fucked where ever u go. specially with the cops. theyll pull u over even if u aint doin shit and get as much money out of u as possible. and u cant do shit about it.
