EXACTLY!

I think it's funny that every time something is going on in the political arena, a disease pops up...or something bad happens somewhere else that keeps our focus off of politics until the shit has died down.

EXACTLY! They use big numbers to keep us worried. What they don't tell you is the percentage. "Yea, this shit went around before...killed 40 Million people worldwide". HOLY SHIT! is probably the first response. THEN you sit back and think, GOD DAMN...40 MILLION PEOPLE isn't even half of the United States...not even CLOSE to half of the United States, let alone the entire world. 2-5% is SMALL! BUT, they keep the fear circulating by leaving that part out.

40 Million is indeed a shitload of people. BUT, it's only 4% of 1 Billion. If it was indeed only 20 Million that died in the last pandemic, then that was only 2% of the population. Back in 1918, the population was about 2 Billion...and half of those people were infected with the flu. So of the 1 Billion people that had the flu...anywhere between 2 and 10% died.

And yes, 500,000 is a lot to die in one country, but when you imagine we have cities as big as Los Angeles and New York, 500,000 people is peanuts.

Plus, the majority of deaths were from Bacterial Pneumonia...highly treatable with antibiotics.

I'm not saying it's cool by any means. I'm simply saying that, compared to the worlds population at the time, not a lot of people died.

You also have to take into consideration that, the advancement of medicine is going to help us greatly in the time of a new pandemic. We have antibiotics for bacterial infections caused by the flu, we have doctors that know how to drain lungs in a matter of seconds so we don't drown. I mean, those two factors alone will help us greatly if it gets that far.

Yes, modern medicine is far better than what it once was..but I work in the ICU...it's not as simple as u make it seem
