And actually, pigs aren't as filthy as people think they are. They roll around in mud, just like horses, elephants, and rhinos. So why aren't they all filthy? Pigs are actually clean because the mud they roll around in, suffocates the little creatures that live on their skin.
Plus they are bacon.
I'm just saying.

If people are so freaked out by swine flu, bird flu, etc I wonder would happen if all of a sudden some crazy exotic animal flu jumped to humans.

Watch out for Egyptian Mongoose flu in 2010.

Only 7 swine flu deaths, not 152, says WHO

April 29, 2009

A member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has dismissed claims that more than 150 people have died from swine flu, saying it has officially recorded only seven deaths around the world.

Vivienne Allan, from WHO's patient safety program, said the body had confirmed that worldwide there had been just seven deaths - all in Mexico - and 79 confirmed cases of the disease.

"Unfortunately that [150-plus deaths] is incorrect information and it does happen, but that's not information that's come from the World Health Organisation," Ms Allan told ABC Radio today.

"That figure is not a figure that's come from the World Health Organisation and, I repeat, the death toll is seven and they are all from Mexico."

Ms Allan said WHO had confirmed 40 cases of swine flu in the Americas, 26 in Mexico, six in Canada, two in Spain, two in Britain and three in New Zealand.

Ms Allan said it was difficult to measure how fast the virus was spreading.

She said a real concern would be if the flu virus manifested in a country where a person had had no contact with Mexico, and authorities were watching all countries for signs of that.

"There is no pattern that has emerged at this stage to be able to say that it is spreading in a particular way or it is spreading into a particular country ... the situation is continuing to evolve," she said.

She said the WHO was not recommending against overseas travel, but urged those who felt sick to stay home and others to ensure they kept their hands clean.

No decision had yet been made about vaccinations.

"This virus is not airborne, it's caused by droplets ... so it's not a time for worry. It's a time to be prepared," Ms Allan said.

Influenza A(H1N1) - update 6

30 April 2009 -- The situation continues to evolve rapidly. As of 17:00 GMT, 30 April 2009, 11 countries have officially reported 257 cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection.

The United States Government has reported 109 laboratory confirmed human cases, including one death. Mexico has reported 97 confirmed human cases of infection, including seven deaths.

The following countries have reported laboratory confirmed cases with no deaths - Austria (1), Canada (19), Germany (3), Israel (2), Netherlands (1), New Zealand (3), Spain (13), Switzerland (1) and the United Kingdom (8).

Further information on the situation will be available on the WHO website on a regular basis.

WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities.

There is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness.

Read that a little bit ago, and I laughed.
Today at work, my Commanding Officer got on the loud speaker and was talking about what we needed to do as a crew to stay safe from this possible pandemic. I fucking hate how stupid everyone seems to be.

Geeeeee....the media really jumped the gun there, didn't they? 7 deaths in Mexico? This is why the motherfuckers need to keep their mouths shut until they have the FACTS!

I use hand sanitizer regularly (got used to it when I worked at Kaiser)...plus I've been sick 5 times this year already, and I'm not trying to do it again. So, I went to pick up a new bottle of sanitizer today...and I went to 5 STORES....ALL SOLD OUT! Nobody even had one of those little $1 bottles of the shit.

It was once said that a black man would be president "when pigs fly"..indeed 100 days into Obama's presidency...swine flu
I got that text earlier and forwarded it to like 40 peeps I got a chuckle out of it.... I rarely forward unless its a good one

I was reading the paper and the reason the death toll is low is because they haven't been confirmed as swine flu related but more than likely they are

Hand sanitizer is alcohol, it can inactivate viruses. It works best on bacteria though because it just kills that shit completely.

The best thing to do is just wash hands while singing happy birthday, and when you're done, your hands are clean.

I still use sanitizers though, mainly to keep myself free of bacteria. I had cellulitis about a month or so ago, and that made me more paranoid than anything because it's deadly as fuck. So FUCK a flu virus, that shit doesn't scare me like an infection in the blood stream caused by bacteria in a cut.

If people were up on shit like THAT, hand sanitizer would never sit on the shelf...but we don't hear about what can happen with a simple scratch or bug bite.
